It wouldn't be a street race in Detroit without a few potholes, right?

No, it wouldn't, and it couldn't, as things literally came apart at the seams Sunday afternoon on Belle Isle, where the Detroit Grand Prix made its return after a three-year hiatus — and then stalled just when things were looking good.

Poor track conditions delayed Sunday's IndyCar race for nearly two hours, with chunks and grooves of patched asphalt lifting off the road and causing at least one minor crash, forcing race officials to scramble just to finish an abbreviated version of the event.
