Got Your Vote? Romney Says He Will Cut The Losses And Exit GM Ownership Quickly If Elected
Republican Mitt Romney believes President Barack Obama is holding on to the government's stake in General Motors to avoid an embarrassing financial loss before the election, and says he'd sell the stock quickly if he wins the White House.

In a wide-ranging half-hour interview with The Detroit News, the presumptive GOP nominee also said he'd review pending rules that will require automakers to almost double fuel efficiency requirements by 2025, and believes Detroit may need a leadership change in order to fix its nagging financial problems.

@"thetruth01", the longer government stays involved with GM the more money we taxpayers will lose. Unless you're a union parasite or a democrat politician who gets money from said union parasite you have no reason to support the idea of GM being owned by the gov't.

The fact that you guys are OK with giving your “Hard Earned” money away to folks who doesn't need it (and are 100's of times wealthier than yourselves) proves that you guys are brain-washed shills.

“Winners”? Justify it any way you want. The fact still remains that you are OK with giving away your hard earned money to folks that are richer than yourself. And for what? Jobs? Unemployment is almost at 9% so it isn't working. Never worked and it never will. All you are doing is contributing to the centralization of wealth.

LexSucks let me get one thing clear, my tax bill last year was $32K. I am tired of continuing to pay taxes to subsidize people on welfare, unemployment and so on. Yes, some people do need these programs but many in this country are just getting a free ride and half do NOT pay taxes.
Why do I need to bail out my neighbor who purchased a house bigger than mine when he couldn't afford it in the first place? These people deserve to lose what they cannot afford.
How many posers we have on this site that cannot afford their cars but are probably driving a better car than mine?
What do you want to do, penalized people like me for making a good living? Don't be hating the rich for being successful. This country affords the opportunity to all, I busted my tail defending out flag for 20+ years in the NAVY and retired as a CDR. That is what employers are looking for, people educated and ready to lead. Companies will compensate you for this.
This country is filled with moochers that have not done anything for the country but whine about why things are not fair.

Move to Somalia.

They have no formal government to intrude on your vast wealth making abilities.

We pay back into a society in order to maintain its health and viability.

In some instances, citizens take advantage of the system.

If you want to eliminate waste in government, there are other more robust budgets to draw from than welfare (not to say waste shouldn't be eliminated from welfare).

How about all the welfare we spent on you while in the NAVY, which is largely a state run jobs program for knuckleheads that can't make it in real academic programs (though there are some smart, serious individuals, too)? How else could we spend as much as the next 13 nations combined without it being so wasteful?

Don't get me wrong, the military, like less-veiled welfare programs provide valuable services to our nation. But it also has the propensity to yield high dollar boondoggles (military industial complex-feeding wars), as does traditional welfare (welfare recipients' offspring).

We have waste to cut allover. We also have some tax revenues that must return.

I have a few recommendations:

1. eliminate private funding of campaigns (no unions, no corporations). allow a set dollar amount for each candidate to procure advertising through PUBLIC funds, say $15M for general presidential election. The savings from reduced pork projects alone could pay for that.

2. reduce corporate tax rate to 10%. this, combined with my next point will encourage companies to invest in their company, as it will be taxed so low. Corporations ARE NOT humans, and should be an appliance in the economy, not a way for private citizens to throw their weight around.

3. INCREASE personal income taxes by 20% (not twenty percentage points).

4. Implement a national gas tax that increases $.02/month for 3 years. A HUGE portion of the cost of gas is due to SPECULATION. Some degree of speculation will be crowded out by this tax, which could go back into infrastructure spending. Why allow speculators to have your money, when your society can benefit from it? If there is a fuel crisis, the tax can be reduced to quickly alleviate gas prices. Who is more vulnerable to fluctuations in gas prices, Europeans or US citizens.

5. Global minimum wage. Don't allow ANY imports to the US unless that nation pays its workers at least the equivalent of US minimum wage. Watch manufacturing flourish.

You ever heard of the term "Less Fortunate"? Or all poor folks "moochers"? That's OK, Keep giving your money away to billion dollar profit corporations. I'm sure that they are grateful.

I’d rather my money go towards the less fortunate (which makes society better for everyone). But you would rather for America to become more like Brazil where kidnappings and Car Jacking are a part of everyday life. Enjoy!!!

LexSucks, it's clear from your comments that you have a fundamental misunderstanding of reality and how things work. You speak of the "less fortunate" as if one's fate is predetermined and their success or lack of it entirely due to luck. That is not the case in the U.S. More often, those living off the resources of others are in that predicament not due to a lack of fortune but rather a lack of responsibility and/or initiative. To punish success with yet more taxation and incentivize failure with more handouts is not only fundamentally unfair, but counterproductive and destructive to a society.

LexSucks, It's 2012 not not 1950. The only institutionalized racist policy that exists TODAY is affirmative action. Again, the most common trait among those who live off the resources of others is a lack of judgement and responsibility, not bad luck. By your logic, Greece is in dire straights simply because they're "less fortunate" and not because they've been chronically irresponsible with their spending and unsustainable lifestyle. I encourage you to read some Thomas Sowell and Milton Friedman. Who knows? With a little education and perspective you might redeem yourself and lose your reputation as the autospies village idiot.

You are living in a bubble in which you believe that all poor folks are moochers. I don’t think that I can say anything that would change your view.

Of course there are people that mooch off of the system, and they’re also folks who are truly “Less Fortunate”. But for some reason you think that “Less Fortunate” means lazy. You couldn’t be any more incorrect. Enjoy your Bubble. I sympathize for the “Less Fortunate”, you don’t. I’m glad I wasn’t raised to think like you and the other brain washed shills here.

LexSucks, these are the most common factors shared among Americans who rely on taxpayers to support them: 1) Dropped out of school 2) Had children while unmarried and/or 3) engaged in criminal activity. Neither of these circumstances occurred due to a lack of "fortune". These are all irresponsible activities that contribute heavily to poverty in this country. You'll find that most successful people don't make these decisions. Chalking up one's financial status to mere fortune and luck is lazy, inaccurate and dishonest.

Oh brave and wise Mitt: Don't you know that your rhetoric won't actually make anything better? That damage has already been done by shelling out tens of billions (that's with a "B") of dollars to failing Giga-Enterprises, and buying GM stock at grossly inflated prices, which transferred GM's losses to the tax-payers.

Your sell-off idea (AKA "getting out of GM") doesn't change a thing! Now get us back our billions, and get GM to buy back the shares at the Fed's book value, and you will have my unending respect and admiration. I'll even wash your car out of gratitude (I realize you already have staff to do that).

Rhetoric. Just useless rhetoric.
