New Jersey Law Requires Pets To Use Seatbelt When Riding In Vehicles
Click it or ticket, fido. Seat belts are not just for people anymore - at least not in New Jersey.

Police and animal control officers are authorized to cite drivers with animals that aren't buckled up, CBS Philly reports.

Yes, that even includes the back of a pickup truck.

Violators can be fined $250 to $1,000 per offense.

I wonder if there are actual statistics on whether or not pets actually causes traffic accidents or if they increase the chances of traffic accidents...

Or if this is just a way to make more income just as I suspect...

Probably the later but don't discount animal activist involvement somewhere along the way.

While I think it's a stupid law, I keep my dog belted in my cars. Dog seems happier secured (but current dog is more of a cat, Maltese), and won't scratch up the interior, or shift me out of gear (Ok, Maltese couldn't do that anyway, but I've had larger). My dog is family too, why wouldn't I belt it? Our harness is noting like the pic, dog can still move around and look out the window. At least I know he won't fall out of the car with the belt.
