If you've been following my posts in the past 24 months, I think by now you would realize that there's one particular vehicle that I admire above all others. That, my friends, would be the McLaren F1. Ever since I laid eyes on it I've been hooked on it like a bad habit.

And now it's hitting the big 2-0.

What better way to celebrate this "round year," than by looking back at Autocar's high-speed test of the vehicle, which topped out at a staggering 243 mph?


...It remains one of the all-time automotive icons, and one of Autocar’s greatest road tests. The test was a landmark – not only for the staggering figures we recorded, but also because it was the only full performance test sanctioned by McLaren. Here’s what we said at the time:

I was somewhat disapointed that the MP412C wasn't intended to be on the same level as the F1, because I wanted it to kick the Veyron out of the current top spot....oh well

One word to describe the F1, (as done so on Need For Speed Hot Pursuit) - "Legendary"
