GrabCAD Supercar Set To Begin Production In 2013
Very few people get to design cars for a living, and even fewer of those will pen the next supercar.

However, one lucky and particularly talented individual that we know of will get to see their dream come true.

GrabCAD, a company specializing in the development of computer-aided design (CAD) software, launched the "Design a supercar body" contest a few months back, and after 194 entries in forty days, Darren McKeage's Tosa Street Car design took victory in the Street Design section, as voted for by "likes" on the contest's Facebook page.

Great to see an autospies article on this. I also happen to be a member of grabCAD, though I specialize in aerospace rather than automotive. http://grabcad.com/chris.shakal

'Dynomite' looking design but sure appears narrow in the cockpit.

Reading the article, I noticed a few errors. The top several cars with the most likes were selected by 500 Group for further review and scrutiny. Things like aerodynamics, chassis integration/fit, looks, etc. were considered, and Darren's design was selected as the best in those areas. So, thankfully, it wasn't just a popularity contest like the article would make it seem.
Also, the article says that grabCADers used grabcad's own software to make the concepts. This is false. GrabCAD is a cad file sharing and collaborative design website, and users can use any CAD software they like, e.g. SolidWorks, CATIA, proE, NX, autoCAD, solidEDGE, etc. GrabCAD frequently hosts design competitions such as these, though this one was among the most high profile ones.
You could say grabCAD is a product development resource made up of cad engineers worldwide.
Just FYI.
