Summer SHOOTOUT: Audi R8 Spyder vs. BMW 650i vs. Mercedes-Benz SL vs. Porsche 911 - WHICH Would YOU Get For $100K?
Now that the Memorial Day Weekend has past, it's time to fire up your barbecues and get out the sun block. Summer has finally arrived, folks.

You know what that means, it's time to start pressing buttons -- or if you're really unfortunate undo the top by hand -- and drop those tops. And if you're talking about grand tourers and sports cars, this test has them all covered.

With a mid-engined coupe like the Audi R8, I can't imagine getting much better.

With a GT car like the BMW 650i, I can't imagine a better road-trip convertible.

With the Mercedes-Benz SL, I can't imagine a better way to cruise the main drag.

With the Porsche 911, I can't imagine a better way to drive to the track, do some hot laps and drive home.

Here's the catch though: You can't have them all.

So, WHICH car would YOU pick and WHY?

To me a convertible sports car is always about look first and than come performance. I'll go with either the Audi R8 or Porsche 911.

Personally, I am torn between the 911 and R8 V8 Spyder.

I see those car as pointed to different consumers: If you have kids: 650 if you do not: R8 or 911....Sl i know is sporty but still I see it more like an Luxury car , specially cause is the only one with hard top..that would be choice....Performance wise...any of them is perfect.

1. 911
2. R8
3. SL
4. 650i

I did this based solely on my own taste and personal appeal and emotional attachments. Theres no logical rhyme or reason, just pure opinion...

The new SL.
Renntech can easily and for reasonable price modify the ECU to get 515hp and almost 600lb ft torque.
Even in stock form it already has performance of old SL63,with the simple modification it will dust all the other cars mentioned while coddling occupants in luxury these others can only dream of.

I will admit that I've now seen the SL63 on the road and it looks pretty enticing.

911 for sure! except you can't actually get any of these cars for $100k. a well-optioned 911 is going to run at least $140k. same for the R8 and SL.

I suppose the BMW, then r8. As good as the r8 looks, btw, I think it's time for a refresh.

1. R8
2. R8
3. R8
4. 911

the 6 series and SL are fat and ugly compared to the light and sporty R8 and 911. Both R8 and 911 are also comfortable for the cruising, which in itself is amazing for practical race cars.
