Lexus Considering Expansion Of CT Lineup
Lexus CT 200h hybrid sales likely will grow 25% in 2012 from year-ago and although that’s a healthy gain, it’s not as much as the Japanese luxury brand would like, a top executive says.

“There’s so much demand globally not only for the CT but (for) other Toyota products that share those components, it’s hard for us to ramp up as fast as we’d like to,” Mark Templin, Lexus U.S. group vice president and general manager, tells WardsAuto here during an interview.

Why not make this car into a road rocket? A Hot Hatch? Oh... I forgot, this is Lexus. A brand where bland american tastes dictates the day.

That's a very prejudicial statement. Lexus' conservative and bland styling appeals to consumers all over the world. Unfortunately, Lexus has greater appeal in the United States because of the German's history of high costs, both in purchase and repair, and questionable reliability.

I think it will always be hybrid only, so how about the 2.5L Camry hybrid engine? Or a CT-F model with the RX 3.5L hybrid engine?

The CT 200h is just the latest version of the IS 300 SportCross. To that end, Lexus knew the vehicle would not be sold in high volume, so they made it a hybrid to test market the feasibility of bringing the model back into production, possibly as a competitor to the German wagons or WRX & Evo Wagon.
