WEIGH IN - Audi Turns To Social Media Users To Ask About WHICH A3 Should Come Stateside, What Say YOU?
Audi USA's Facebook page asked its users a very interesting question yesterday.

Actually, it's pretty straightforward.

Now it's been officially confirmed that the Audi A3 sedan will make its way stateside; however, what about the other variants? Not so much.

But it's pretty clear that Audi is open to the concept of bringing over the A3 hatchback -- three/five-door, no specific info discussed -- and possibly its A3 convertible to the U.S. market. The problem? It isn't sure if there's a business case for it.

So rather than dilly-dally with focus groups, which I bet it'll do anyway, Audi took to its Facebook faithful to weigh in and possibly help with the decision.

Considering Audi attributed the import of the TT RS to its Facebook friends, this could be pretty significant in determining the A3's future for the U.S.

That said, weigh in below and we'll be sure to forward your comments to our friends over at Audi USA.

Car and Driver gets behind the wheel of the forthcoming Audi A3 and calls it a step forward. Right now, the sedan is confirmed for US release late this year... Would you like to see the hatchback and convertible, too?

As usual you know crap about cars; just another want-a-be auto person.

I don't think the sedan is coming in 2012, or I guess a production will be shown in LA but A3 sedan sales won't start until fall 2013. Anyways it mostly depends on how much extra the 5 door costs to sell in addition to the sedan, the current 5 door shows that hatches are still a tough sell.

I say 3-door and 5-door only. I continue to be baffled by American's love of sedans over much more practical hatches. Oh, and I am an American.

I guess it is in the same unfathomable category of American's love of automatic transmissions.

The A3 sells fewer units than the A7 but is priced at half the price. Even when it was newish product it sold a fraction of the more expensive A4 and less units than the A5. The sedan version will easily double or triple the sales. I am sure Audi USA is one of the main reasons the sedan A3 is being made in the first place.

There is a reason why BMW only brought the coupe version of the 1 series. BTW if you look at some recent German comparisons the old Golf/GTI are sill beating the new 1 series.

It will be interesting to see what happens. A sedan will be good to attract byers of the new Acura ILX and the Lexus CT. However, it could also eat into some sales of buyers who would otherwise buy an A4. Being on my 3rd A4. the car is appealing, although I think the small back seat will turn me away from migrating down. However, it almost brings us back to the original A4 in terms of size, something there is still a cult following of.

I never liked the A3 hatch, I think the GTI is a better looking and performing car. The new A3 sedan design is much more appealing, and I do share jeffgal's take on cannibalizing sales of the A4. It will all depend on whether buyers consider rear seating room a high priority. I'm getting of my second Audi. I love most of the models (except the A3) and the direction in which Audi is heading with its design. When most manufacturers copy your design features (full front grill, LED eyelids, etc) it says something about appeal. BMW has had it right with the sporting focus in its marketing, MB has nice designs but you never know what you get... a Lexus luxury competitor one day or a lightweight sporty model the next (there is no focus), and Audi to me is marching straight ahead in all fronts.

4 Door like the one pictured. Hatches? Blah... This isn't the 1980's and also America isn't europe.

The A3 hatchback is the only way to go. Anyone who wants a sedan should just go himself a Toyota Camry or A Buick Park Ave.
