As the consumer device maker doubles down on its popular voice-enabled personal assistant software, it is looking at another large market to drive rapid adoption: cars.

Apple Inc's new in-house Maps service along with free turn-by-turn navigation feature and real-time traffic updates converts the iPhone into a valuable navigation device - one of the most popular features on Google Inc's  Android gadgets.

Combine that with the new "Eyes Free" feature - where drivers talk to Siri with the tap of a button on steering wheels - and analysts say the iPhone has the potential to disrupt the car electronics and navigation market.

FACT: Not everyone wants to be locked into Apple 'ecosystem' so this stands to do little in the grand scheme of things.

Cool tech and all, but nothing all that groundbreaking.

is it all that horrible to be "locked" into the apple ecosystem? the tech works...you may be able to do more with another system and pay less since it's an advertisement driven free mobile OS. "free" isn't necessarily better than a paid system.

at this point, I don't buy and exclusively use their products, but when it meets my needs, I'm signing up. The stuff works really well. You have to give Apple that credit.

Who stands to lose? The Competition, or anyone who doesn't care about owning an apple product. What about the other smart phones other than the iPhone?
