Automakers Say Apple Is Moving Faster Than They Are With Siri Integration
One of the most exciting announcements to come from Apple's developers conference this week was the news that it has partnered with nine automakers to integrate Siri into cars in the next 12 months. But apparently not all of the car companies are on the same page.

Fast Company reached out to each of the nine car companies and found that "just a few" confirmed they are working to add Siri into their cars in that time frame

I don't want Apple anything in my car. I don't purchase Apple products.

Would you rather have Google or Microsoft? I don't think we're going to have a choice pretty soon.

"I don't purchase Apple products."

Just curious, is this based on political views, emotions or technical reasons? I have heard people say this and I guess I just have never understood the reasons.

I don't purchase Apple products because they are EXTREMELY overpriced.

"I don't purchase Apple products because they are EXTREMELY overpriced."

Apple products have a high entry cost, but might make up for it in higher residual value and lower maintenance costs. A few years ago, I sold a 10-year-old iBook for $500, having paid $1099 for it new. There's no way an entry-level Compaq laptop, for example, would have held that kind of value--they're throwaways.

There's an interesting story in the above-referenced site that points out how many previous generation iPhones are running the latest OS (and will be on the next) compared to Android-based devices. Only 7% of Android devices are running 4.0 and some of these devices will never catch up (some even just a year old). iPhones are at 80%. This is easily another example of how that device that seems EXTREMELY underpriced may not be in the long run if you consider the latest software to have value.

But anyway, TehShibbs, I'm glad there are people out there who will categorically not buy Apple products as they help foster competition. Enjoy your aftermarket Zune button.

AlleVier - I guess that all depends if you want it to just work or be a constant risk.

There are always cheaper alternatives.

Would you rather have a BMW or a Civic? Both can seat 4 and get you where you want. But the do it differently.

Compare like items (dare I say apples to Non apples?). Checkout the new ultrabooks cloned after the macbook air and see once you start matching technology head on the price difference you claim there is goes away really fast.

- Predatory business practices, Proprietary everything, overpriced, cheaper alternatives are out there with more options, weak hardware. And last but not least. I don’t want to be associated with the Apple lemmings.

- No, and there are always choices. I will not buy an Apple product just because a car manufacturer is in bed with them.

Also lacking in features. The iPhone still isn't 4G. It's enhanced 3G that they advertise as 4G. Typical Apple. The iPhone just recently implemented the pull-down status bar. Android had that for years. I could go on but why bother?

- No I'm just not an Apple Lemming. I leave that to the sheep. Behind the curve? Are you serious? So a Samsung Galaxy S3 is behind the curve? Why do Apple fans ignore the fact that there are viable alternatives that some folks feel are actually better? "F" Apple!

OK I actually have to agree with Lexsucks for once. Apple isn't that great people... Quite honestly I don’t see what people even like in Apple aside from "pretty hardware" there isn’t much to get excited about. Just like BMW, Apple has some neat performance features and is 'pretty' but after that you get screwed in so many ways. Personally I feel the I-Phone's interface is clumsy with its "hey look I can clump all of this Lego looking crap onto one screen BS." How about the fact that you can't even change your own battery, what's up with that. And as for Siri, LOL Whatever!~ There is nothing special about that except the fact that it talks back. I could go on and on... Sorry, but Apple is for idiots.

Or could it be that the car companies know what they are doing and everything is already planned out, but they are not letting their secret out to some third party company asking for information...

I would prefer Androids Google maps over Siri and I am an Apple fan. The android phones are horrible are are good quality for about a month. their integration sucks and it forces you to do certain things. I could go on for hours, but dont want to bore you.
With Android, for example, you can just say "steves hot dogs, chicago" and the nav will find it very quickly. Where most navs you have to slowly type everything in and if it isnt perfect, you cant find it.
