You Say The Volt Is A Flop? Then Why Is It Outselling The Corvette?
In the ongoing contest between its two premium cars, Chevrolet's Volt hybrid, a relative newcomer to the brand, is outselling the long-running Corvette sports car so far in 2012.

The Volt, now in its first year of full production, was delivered to 7,057 customers from January through May, while the Corvette, in its sixth generation and 60th year, was selected by 5,547 customers in the first five months.

LOL @ pondosinatra. Yes it is. Comparing Volt sales with Corvette is nonsensical at best. What Edmunds should be comparing are the Prius sales to the Volt, and FLOP is written all over the Volt. Sure the Prius leverages a price advantage, but that is somewhat balanced by the Volt's $7500 tax credit.

Basically the premise is...what do you consider a flop or success. All depends on the target market. The Prius and the Volt are in different markets all together.

It's hard to find a Volt driver who considers their car a flop. What flopped were the unrealistic expectations set by GM in order to please people.

Volt is outselling the LEAF which is really the only car it should be compared to, the Prius plug in counts also I suppose but Toyota doesn't show the plug in numbers.

The Prius will do a Whimpy 15 miles on pure electric and cost pretty close to a Volt which is far more advanced in every form and way.

@Agent009,

as soon as you said this "The Prius and the Volt are in different markets all together." you a Lost your Credibility with me. How is it that they're in a different market when their Ultimate when they're design was to use the least amount of gas as possible to get from point A to point B? To get the most mpg?

A lot time when I read the articles you and agent00R write I wonder how you two get your job in the first place and that Not a Complement either.

And you can't compare the Volt with the Corvette because one car is main purpose is to use the least amount of gas to get from point a to point b. While the other is about horsepower, driving fast and having fun.

Just because something has been around longer does not mean it will be more successful than something that is newer or just came out.
