Resale Be Damned? Lexus Boosts Discounts To Keep Up With BMW And Mercedes
U.S. consumers are getting better deals on luxury cars and SUVs this year as the top brands clear out old models and race to be No. 1 in sales.

Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus has led the rise in customer incentives. Lexus boosted discounts on its cars by 54 percent this year and its SUVs by 60 percent, according to researcher Autodata Corp.

Mercedes-Benz increased incentives 11 percent and BMW AG by 6.9 percent, compared with a 2.2 percent gain in industry-wide promotions.

hmmm...much lower MSRPs to begin with. and now vastly higher growth in incentives. would love to see lexus' profitability numbers but that'll never happen.

pondo: at least get the FACTS right. the difference in price are far larger than $3-5k. base prices aren't wildly far apart, but lexus offers far more standard equipment so when the car are equipped the same the difference are HUGE. for example:

maxed-out IS350: 46,479
loaded 335i: 57,830

maxed-out: GS350: 58,540
well-equipped 535i: 77,995 (i left off 7k in equipment not availabe on the GS)

the difference between the LS and 7/S are even larger...as much as 40k.

so MSRP difference when comparably equipped range from $10k to about $40K. now help me understand how a $1000 difference in incentive matters....

This whole story is bullshit. Margins have been cut by 30% and the only cash back is 1k on the ES350...

what 'margins' have been cut by 30%? dealer? corporate profits? and how do you know this?

nice selective sharing of the facts in the article. here's the complete data:

average lexus SUV incentive: $3,734 (the RX is almost HALF of the brand so this matters)

average bmw SUV incentive: $2,286

average lexus vehicle incentive: $2,545

average bmw vehicle incentive: $3,613

so to sum up, lexus has 50% higher incentives than BMW on it's best selling SUV. lexus vehicle incentives are $1000 less than BMW. factor in that a comparable BMW MSRP is anywhere from $10k to $30k more than lexus and the $1000 become laughable.

i wish someone would show what matters: NET SELLING PRICE. lexus will always lose than comparison by a long shot.

That's only on the 2012 rx350 not the 2013.

BD: help me understand your logic. if a fully-optioned 335i sedan is around $59,000 and a fully optioned IS530 is around $46,000 (that's an MSRP difference of $13,000). how, exactly does $1,000 more incentive matter?

BD: the total number is irrelevant. the NET SELLING PRICE is what matters. god i hope you have a good accountant because numbers are not your forte.

Some companies offer discounts to motorists who drive a lower than average number of miles a year. Low mileage discounts can also apply to drivers who car pool to work. "Clearance Auto" is the place you should be if you need auto insurance at the best price

Lexless sacrifices their customers just to prop up their SAGGING SALES numbers.

So much for Lexless integrity and honor.

...I Love the real funny but realistic humor from BlackDynamiteMB. Listen guys, the bottom line in all of this is this: The Japanese know they have a superior build quality Automobile, especially Lexus, than even the Europeans. That Ultimate Driving Machine, Prestige babble is running out fast and people, even the wealthy are paying serious attention to the Lexus Brand because it's a better Value and a wiser buy and does not insult their intelligence. I'm tellin ya guys, I would'nt be surprised if Lexus is not secretly working building a friggin Bentley or Rolls Royce!! They proved to the world already that they can build a Halo Exotic with their own patent Carbon Fiber Weaving Machine (the only car maker that exclusively weaves a chassis like that)....And you dont think a friggin Billionnare dont think about exclusive stuff like that. Hey Buds, we're livin in the modern High-Tech age. Right on BlackDynamite! I use to battle these guys daily about this kinda stuff a few yrs ago...BUT I'M BACK AND I AINT BEEN IN JAIL!!
