The Road To Success Or Failure? Acura To Stick With "The Beak" In Future Models

The Road To Success Or Failure? Acura To Stick With
Acura's new global design chief wants to spice up Honda's premium brand, but one polarizing feature won't change.

The shieldlike double pentagon grille -- derisively billed "the beak" by critics -- is here to stay, says Toshinobu Minami.

Minami, 44, took the reins of exterior design for Honda and Acura last September, chosen by President Takanobu Ito to inject more visual interest into the company's utilitarian styling

considering how well Acura has listened to it's market/buyers, it will begrudgingly stay most likely... they are so disconnected over there at Acura. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Absolutely wild! The irony that they are using phrases like "gotten used to it" and "we won't buckle under pressure like that" to describe their how their designs have been received is the type of classic head-in-the-sand thinking that got them where they are today. Nice to see that some things don't change, like the pig-headed arrogance of some brands.

I really think Acura is really Ugly compare to the last generation design. The last generation Acura TL was the best looking one (their RL is the worse because it look like a Honda accord).

I know Honda make Acura so you would figure the premium brand was look better but it's not. I think the current Honda Accord Coupe is better than any current Acura models except the TSX.

If they keep this FUGLY Design up and No one will know what Acura is within 5 years. Especially with other company coming out with better and more sporty design.

What a bunch of I D I O T S!! Most people HATED the beak loo; they recognize it wasn't a smart choice, "but people have gotten use to it". WOW - what a way to market your product and entice buyers to look at your "new" product line. No wonder most people think they're borrrrrrrrrrring. You admit you made a mistake on the BEAK, but we'll keep it anyway (just make the beak a little smaller). Great marketing strategy!!!! And we'll watch the other auto companies blow by you in beautiful design work. What a thing to say by someone who is in charge.

Acura,
As time goes by Americans think your design is not only ugly, but now its old....and you are going to continue with this front end style on new models?? BIG MISTAKE... At this point it seems all of your sedans need a redesign including the ones that just came out... thats because you are designing from the front to the rear. using the front as your
beginning point of reference and working the mid and rear to work with that ugly starting point. START FRESH WITH A NEW MODEL AND SEE IF IT SELLS - you will see that we will come back to acura - but its got to be a new front end....otherwise you are going going gone......

The "beak" as you simpletons refer to it is a Japanese shield of honor. I wouldn't expect the average american to understand that.

The beak of honor (as you say), doesn't translate into higher sales so WHO CARES what it's suppose to mean or the origin of the symbol. It's about craftsmanship and a building beautiful car; nobody sits around their living-room discussing the origin or meaning of the "beak". If anything it would be HP, handling, etc.

The power plenum as a concept is not bad, but the execution was horrible with ungainly proportions...now that Acura (Honda) is returning to its usual understated (sane) designs, I think the 'beak' will be incorporated with better success...

That being said, every time I see a last gen TL (you know, the good looking one that was replaced by the current bloated icky design) in my rear view mirror, sun gleaming off the pentagon grille - I know exactly what car it is AND it looks good...

Dear Minami-San and Ito-San,
Please realize ussing that stupid grill on your cars will keep people out of the Acura Showroom in the United States of America. t is not something Americans want to have to get used to. If you continue to do this blatent stupidity in your design langage you will give Acura a death of 1000 cuts as it slowly loses customers and market share to BMW, Lexus, Mercedes and Audi ho all make better cars that are prettier. In America we want V8 engines and rear wheel drive while you are at it you pig headed retards.

No NO NO!!! Do not listen to this horrible fool who compensates for penis size by driving a gas wasting sports car. Acura is some of the best cars because they are efficient and luxuryous.

I know Acura has great cars but I swear lately it seems they loose the budget half way through the design process and decide to put the thing on sale as is...

Why do you even have to have this BEAK look. Just get rid of it instead of painting it, trying to make it look like "chrome", etc. It doesn't do anything in terms of looks. Honda - redesign your freakin beakin grill and this will solve the deakin problem.

..Guys I'm tellin ya, Honda is lost...And Acura over the past few years have decided they want their Luxury Division to put a front grill on that looks like A FRIGGIN PARROT!!! Dude!! They are about to get slaughtered by the new Lexus ES350 and the new Toyota Avalon(which has a funky grill that still looks better than that friggin BIRDS BEAK!! Acura has become an ORPHAN! God help them recover and wake up before it's too late.....

This is a major improvement. Minor grille tweak, but significant improvement in looks. But now it looks like a Camry...

...I told u dude, Honda/Acura at the moment are lost Orphans and now u say they copying the Camry. Man it makes us wonder about these car companies today. At any rate, the more cars u sell the more cash u will have to hire big time designers to help u come up w/ better ideas for some form of originality. Then again, maybe everybodies running out of original ideas. Everybody has to look up to somebody, maybe Honda's starting to look up to Toyota....Toyota is number one right?
