Do You Believe It? BMW To Power M3 And Upcoming M4 With Inline 6 Cylinder

Last month, BMW confirmed that the new 2014 BMW M3 and M4 models will be powered by an inline-six engine. The F80 M3 will debut, in concept form, at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, and it might have a surprise under the hood.

According to sources close to our sister-magazine BimmerToday, the powerplant found under the hood is a newly developed 3.2 liter unit, still inline-six, which has its fundamentals in the current M3 engine, the S65 V8.

Trust me bro, BMW is running out of gimmicks. They make awesome cars no doubt. But Lexus has their number. It's just a matter of time before BMW & Meced will be chasing Lexus like you wont believe. It's all about who is really gifted when it comes to electronics blended w/ all aspects of the automotive proscess and trust me those Japanese have the gift. Watch how the Lexus LFA & Nissan GT-R end up at the top of their games....other exotics in exclusivity & speed over time. The LFA is already breaking the top Nurburgring track records and their are a lot of other faster Exotics (in straight line performance) out there including the 2012 GT-R. Toyota is busy securing the chassis and overall handling of the F cars so when the power increases come they will have an overall superior product in build & performance dominance. MARK MY WORDS!! Anyway, back to the question. Yes I believe BMW needs another M3, another gimmick such as the M4. What else can they try to do to stop Lexus's increasing influence on the enthusiast and the luxury buyer.

Lexus has a specific fanbase, and BMW has a different fanbase. Different strokes for different folks. No big deal.

...In line 6 I meant: over other Exotics in exclusivity & speed over time.

...yeah, those were the good ole days. Inline 6 in the M3, Supra & Skyline had the badest inline sixes of all time. The Toyota Supra Inline 6 was an over engineered engine & chassis capable of handling up to 900hp on the engine & trans w/ minor tweaks to the brakes & suspension. Man if Toyota ever decides to bring back any form of a Supra they have their own Legacy and heritage to live up to. But they want absolute demand from consumers (followers included) and they want a challenge. Unlike Honda, Toyota (Heir Akio Toyoda incoming President as of 2010) is a Big Vision Corp w/ second to none Engineers & designers and they are driven to achieve high levels of success and must be challenged to do something nearly impossible for their competitors to keep up with. So, for BMW to bring an M4 forth would be percieved as a challenge for Lexus to superceed it.
