SPIED: Audi, BMW, And Mercedes-Benz - You've Been Put On Alert, The Porsche Macan Is Coming

These are the latest spy images of the most production-representative Porsche Macan mule testing at the Nürburgring. The all-new Audi Q5-based compact SUV will go on sale in October 2013 as Porsche’s fifth model line.

Previous Macan mules have tested with Q5 bodywork, but this is the first time test mules have worn a body representative of the final production car. The influences of the larger Cayenne are clear in the five-door Macan, the car effectively looking like a shrunken version of its bigger brother.

The Macan has a low wide, stance and is sleek in profile, traits helped by its sharply raked windscreen and sloping roofline.

Why does Audi need to be put on alert? This is the sister SUV to the Q5.

I think VW's luxury brands, though corporate cousins, still compete with each other. They work together and share common (unseen) components, but I think they're doing well b/c they try to be better with each new product.

And likewise, where the Audi's performance/capabilities seem to taper off is where the Macan would seem to step in and move the bar forward.
