The Quickest Way To The Bottom Of JD Power IQS May Be By Having Driver Facing Technology
According to J.D. Power & Associates 2012 Initial Quality Study more and more drivers are complaining about problems with vehicle technology.

Ford Motor received the biggest number of complaints concerning its dashboard technology glitches in new cars and trucks. The number of entertainment, audio and navigation problems increased 8% over the last year, shows the report.

“Technology is becoming increasingly important as a quality differentiator,” said Dave Sargent, vice president of J.D. Power’s global automotive division, speaking to the Automotive Press Association. “This is quickly becoming the battleground of the future.”

Actually could it be more of an indication of the education system as a whole? We stereotype technology issues with older drivers but younger buyers -- those under 35 -- are about twice as likely as older buyers to complain about tech issues.

So are we raising a generation to not read the owners manual? After all the these interfaces are written so the typical driver can use them.

This study has nothing to do with reliability. If an owner reports dissatisfaction with a cup holder because it doesn't hold their favorite drink, the IQS study counts it as a defect. If an owner does not know how to operate a certain tech gadget in their car, it is also counted as a defect.

The operator is not the problem. JD powers with their useless studies are the problem. What exactly is the point of the IQS? Should I not buy a car that is near or below average because someone decided they don't like the cupholders or they don't want to take the time to learn how to operate the advanced functions in the car, when I know that the things that matter to me in the car are superior to the "top rated" Lexus or Toyota?

...Look, it all comes down to how involved and how much is any Co. willing to please the majority of drivers out there. So if you wana know what makes Brands and a particular model out sells every thing on the planet, You the car maker have to be more interested in designing your products or a particular product that most people find pleasant to look at, to own, to drive and is simply dressed to impress. And of course dont forget to deal with the different strokes for different folks crowd who they themselves still know it's hard to fight against high level success or success stories.

...and those Brands who end up at or near the bottom, well, they keep making ugly ducklings (Nissan Cube,Juke and the likes), weird names, cheaper than cheap products, odd ball designs yr in and yr out, no good advertisments or none at all, the product wont sell and if it dont sell that good it wont get a hefty budget from that company and they wont be able to put much money back into the product. These are things that may cause some of those models we find at the bottom of quality spread sheets.

Who cares?

I've never bothered with JD Powers or Consumer Reports. I've gone out and bought the cars I liked.

And guess what? They were all very reliable. If there were problems they were small problems that could easily be fixed and that didn't hinder the car from driving, starting, shutting down etc.
