Toyota Wants To A Performance Brand - What Will They Have To Do To Make TMG Like AMG?
Toyota plans to launch a TMG sub-brand, named after Toyota Motorsport GmbH, which will include models from Toyota and Lexus.

“After we stopped Formula One [involvement] we decided several things. One of these things is to to become a [Mercedes] AMG-type company; we are now trying [to make it happen]. How feasible [it will be] I don’t know. But we are in a very good position,” TMG president Yoshiaki Kinoshita said.

In 2009, after Toyota gave up F1, its facility based in Cologne, Germany, shrunk to 200 employees from the initial 800. Although the team at Toyota Motorsports GmbH was considerably smaller, it managed to carry on important projects such as building Yaris-based S2000 rally cars for customer teams, creating Toyota’s electric race car program and developing the TS030 Hybrid Le Mans prototypes.

Let TMG span Toyota, Lexus AND Scion. Just imagine the possibilities...
V8 FR-S
V8 Yaris
V8 Corolla
V8 CT
V8 tC
V10 LS
V10 GS sedan
V10 GS coupe
V10 IS
...
V10 iQ
Aaaand back to reality. Seriously, here's my plan for TMG.

First, either replace or take on the name of Lexus' F division. TMG should then begin making hot versions of Scions and Lexuses but NOT Toyotas. Why? Well, seeing high-powered hot rods sitting next to Camrys would likely alienate Toyota's non-enthusiast customer base. TMG could start out with hot versions of some of the following: the FR-S, tC, LS, GS, CT and IS, continue spawning them for ~10 years, build race cars for Scion, and then begin work on its own halo supercar (think SLS AMG), which it would design from the ground up with the help of its growing reputation.

...Just always remember this about Toyota. The product must command a demand from consumer feedback, followers and new customers. Secondly, This Corp. is full of High Achievers on every level, from heir Akio Toyoda down to who's left on the Assembly line. They are self driven with passion and a serious need for challenge. So yeah, they will bring forth a very wicked TMG offspring. You can be sure of that!!!

...They will need to simply give those selected models some serious POWER...Turbo-Charged, SuperCharged or what ever....They had better bring It!!!
The Rich & the Poor alike want fast & furious machines and they really dont care who makes them. Just the way drivers are becoming across the board, more spirited drivers and the passion for vehicles with plenty of power and great handling is in. Soft cushy mobiles are fastly becoming the thing of the past, as in the 60's & 70's muscle car era. THAT DAY IS GONE BYE BYE!!!

How about winning some races first. Oh wait, they pulled out of F1 after 8 seasons and millions of dollars spent with no wins. At least with AMG or more specifically the parent company MB, they have a racing heritage and they do win races.

What is wrong with you enthusiastx11? Yeah they follow the path of the Germans but is that a bad thing? Oh and for the record, what ever they do, they do it better than the Germans for sure.

TMG should start with their version of the GT86 and ride in the coattails of its current success.

Compete in the GT series against the M3 and 911 coupes under homologation rules, and win every now and then. Now you're ready to market your performance models.

...Mr Akio Toyoda is laughing all the way to the BANK!!! Toyota dont need F1. Even if they had won races I believe they would have eventually pulled out. They know that F1 is a foolishly, ego and costly venture for any manufacturer, even if u win a few races. They are into consumers and now they've turned they're attention to the young and passionate enthusiast. They basically will have flat smoke a few of those Merced AMG's and that will do the trick. Most people know Lexus has a better reliability record than Merced or BMW any day!
