Spy Photos: More New Bentley 4x4

According to insider information the famous Volkswagen-owned British car maker Bentley is about to go off road. Dubbed “Cross Continental” the new model is set to rival the Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg, Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator.

Hardly known, but the first steps into the SUV market were already made by Bentley years ago when they built just one Range Rover-based 4x4 named Dominator for some very rich and famous celebrity – back then.

they built it as a show car, and i think the sultan of brunei bought them all. it was based on an range rover. but bentley keeps denying that they will build an suv, as it is not very bentley-ish and would have any bentley values. leave the common flashy muck to maybach, they can have an suv.

so dumb, why does every car company have to lower themselves and build a SUV?

Car companies make SUV's to stay alive. They are some of the best selling cars in the market and thus impossible for automakers to ignore. For example: Porsche built the Cheyenne in order to stay open as an independant company. Unlike many companies like Lamborghini which have parent compaies to fit R&D bills, Porsche doesn't. They built the Cheyenna to raise money for the new line of amazing 997's you are seeing today.

The P-shops aren't the worst I have seen. In US SUV make up about 1/3 of the market. You can't ignore it. BTW if this comes out, it won't have to pay gas guzzler tax, but the regular Continental/Flying Spur does.

This is an autoblog. Write about cars. Not my grammatical errors. I apologize, it should be "Cayenne"

Some car companies need them to stay alive(GM, Ford, etc).....but let's leave them where they belong, with those manufacturers. I have no problem with SUVS, but my point is it's lame that sports car manufacturers are making these vehicles, which were initially meant for off roading, etc. All I'm saying is it's stupid that every manufacturer has to follow suit. Is the market for a Bentley SUV going to be that big that it would impact profits? I doubt it. The only people that would be dumb enough to buy a Bentley SUV are rappers and ignorants.

In response to Phantom330; There are a lot of ignorant people in this world. (and a rising amount of rappers as well) 40 years ago nobody would have thought there would be a market for a $250,000+ car. Now we have SLR's and Bugatti's up the wazoo! Chances are the Bentley SUV will be just as popular with the "image" crowd as the current Cayenne is. ( Not to say the Cayenne is a purely image based car. It happens to be one of my favorite SUV's out.)
