Icon? Not even close, or not yet anyway... Besides, they couldn't even sell all 500 units. Usually, iconic cars sell out all units long before it hits production...

BD, its funny that even as recently as June 15th, Toyota US Vice President of Sales said they still have several in stock, which indicates that its not sold out... Is it their strategy not to sell it to just anyone? or could it be that not enough people are willing to fork up 500K for a Lexus two year lease? You should think about it...

...Yeah well not so fast their ThierryHenry14, Even the rich & famous are not dishing out the cast like they use to. Besides, Toyota know a whole lot more than u & I about what makes distinct & great automobile and how it is and will be perceived over time. They are smart enough to know you dont let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. I think it's a very wise move...Now that really makes it a super exclusive Exotic that was ten yrs behind time and still becomes a time capsule! Man these guys @ Toyota are good!

lexworld... If Toyota knew what makes a car iconic, then name 5 iconic Toyota Performance car... Right, you should think about what you say because companies don't set out to build iconic cars, they set out to build performance cars and its the people who makes them iconic... Its the fact that their is less supply than demand which makes it iconic. It doesn't appear to be the case here...

TOYOTA knew that there wasn´t going to be any profit to be made from the Lexus LFA due to the high cost incurred from developing and constructing it. However, insiders aim was to create a halo car for the brand.
Personally, I think it was a waste of resources but regardless, it is a great car. Not a ICON but a great car, it will be another NSX.

Well said!!! In fact, the new SC may end up being a smaller rendition of the LFA

lots can be 'accomplished' while losing hundreds of millions of dollars. the LFA sales didn't even come close to covering the cost of building it. how much more success like this can toyota handle?

Stupid stupid 009 headline. How is it a death when the production run, which we all knew was the limit, is reached? You haters are just mad that lo and behold, Lexus sold every single one of them.

well it never made sense. cost of production was vastly higher than what they could sell them for. they could only go on losing money for so long.

"Discontinued" ?!?!...

You're either on drugs, from another planet, or just a hard-of-learning dimwit.

From the beginning, Lexus came out and stated they will make 500 copies of the LF-A. EVERYONE KNEW THIS. It was never a secret. The company was asked countless number of times waaay before the cars were produced if they'd consider increasing this limit. And they rejected the idea...REPEATEDLY.

How you missed this says a lot about your obvious lack of knowledge in a subject you're supposed to be knowledgeable of.

Just wondering...what type of "credentials" does one need to start threads here on this site? One's ability to form non-objective, very biased opinions about certain car brands?

Huh? If they only intended to build 500, how is this the death of a car?
For $400,000, I bet I couldn't buy one even if I had the money. Probably be able to get a Ferrari easy though.

How many Ford GTs can you buy if you walked into a Ford dealership with a suitcase containing $1 million? The GT must stink too since they don't sell it anymore.

Lexus said they were making 500 LFA's. Case closed.

The discussion is this crazy idea the LFA is an Icon. Are you kidding me? The GTR is a car I would consider an Icon. The Supra is a car I would consider an icon. At this point the LFA is a show car. Shine it up and show the world how rich you are. It hasn't put in enough hours and elbow greese to be an icon.

This is as bad as Carmello Anthony hearing MVP chants from Knicks fans when he shoots a free throw.

An icon? Give me a break. An icon has to accomplish monumental challenges or endure for years. The LFA has done neither and was produced in miserly low numbers so very few people ever even saw one.

It is an unknown car.

Sorry Blackie: You are INCORRECT. The LFA turned 7m 14.5s which makes it the SIXTH fastest production car. That's far from the fastest.

Yes it is quick but your statement is patently false. The Viper, the Appolo, the Ferrari and the very fastest car, the Zonda-R are all faster than the Toyota LFA.
