Lexus SPEAKS Out About The Mysterious LFA "AD-A" AND "AD-B" Prototypes

Lexus SPEAKS Out About The Mysterious LFA
Although it's easily one of the most hated and controversial vehicles in quite sometime, the internet has been abuzz the past two weeks while watching not one, but two, all-new Lexus LFAs undergoing what appeared to be developmental testing on and near the Nurburgring.

Sporting new paint schemes and new paint colors, these LFAs were thought to be special editions; however, Toyota has come forward and is confirming that these two specific vehicles are, in fact, one-offs being tested for technical purposes.

So, what do YOU think that means?

Is this the start of the LFA II?

Despite the two mystery prototypes (see: AD-A & AD-B) currently racing around Nürburgring, Lexus has no special edition LFAs planned.

“These LFA units spotted at Nürburgring are one-off vehicles developed by the TMC technical division, and are currently being tested for technical purposes only,” Etienne Plas, senior manager of product communications for Lexus Europe, told me via email, “We have no plans to produce and sell any new special edition of the LFA.”

"easily one of the most hated and controversial vehicles in quite sometime"

Maybe by the interweb trolls blogging from their mothers' basements, but not by anyone who has driven or purchased one.

Just to clarify, I am a HUGE fan of the LFA.

And I fall into the category of folks who have actually driven it. Just read my review.

I still don't get how anyone can give the LFA with it's Nurburgring lap times.

"please, someone, anyone justify this outdated engineering exercise?"

- They cant.

Just watch the video below. The LF-A gets smoked. Out in the first round. Funny.

In the video referenced, I would rather have the LFA over the Aventador and Veyron. The McLaren is a tough call.

00R... Really? I would rather have the Veyron GrandSport and Aventador and the MC4-12 over the LF-A... For many reasons... not even a close call...

The LFA I don't think was really built around specific numbers, The interior is simply unequaled in the business, I've sat inside the new Pagani Huayra and can tell you that the LFA's interior is easily 5 notches above that, simply unbelievable.

Performance wise, the Nurburgring is a fantastic gauging mechanism of a car's overall engine performance, speed and handling. To hit 7:14 on the ring is absolutely insane, over 10 seconds faster than an Enzo, Zonda and 458 speaks volume about what the LFa is beyond 0-60 times.

Personally I think the LFA is a supercar, but like all things Auto, your mileage may vary

The LF-A that did that time wasn't stock. As a reference a Viper ACR beat that time a few weeks later.

The standard LF-A was slower than the 458 Italia when tested by the same driver in the same conditions on the same day. If you look at Sport Auto times the LF-A runs around a 7:40 from what I remember which is very similar to what other cars with a similar power to weight are able to do.

"The Viper is out of production, so who gives a %$#@?"

- Isn't the LF-A out of production?

Ferrari Enzo: 7:25.7 driven by Marc Basseng (Evo Magazine Test)20.6 km
Pagani Zonda F Clubsport: 7:24.44 Marc Basseng (Evo Magazine Test) 20.6 km

Lexus LF-A 7:38 Horst Von Saurma (Sport Auto) 20.6 km layout
Lexus LF-A 7:38.85 Sascha Bert (Auto Bild) 20.8 km layout

Now her are some competitors with similar power:

Ferrari 458 7:32.92 Sascha Bert (Auto Bild) 20.8 same test as the LF-A
Ferrari 458 7:38 Horst Von Surma (Sport Auto) 20.6 km track

Nissan GT-R 7:38 Horst Von Saurma (Sport Auto)
Gallardo LP-570 7:40.76 Sacha Bert (Auto Bild) same test as above 20.8

Marc Basseng is a FIA GT1 driver, Sascha Bert is a FIA GT3 driver and Horst Von Saurma has tested pretty much every single performance vehicle on the 'Ring. The LF-A is 7:40 car in the hands of a professional driver just as its power to weight, acceleration and other stats would indicate. Not surprisignly its performance is on par with other cars with similar stats.

I don't hate this car. Its the people who makes it more than it is that makes it dumb. Its a nice fast car, but thats it. It has done nothing in racing, its not profitable (and if you are going to make an unprofitable car, at least pull a Veyron and set a few records while you are at it), its not too pleasing too the eye (opinionated), and overall, its aged and car manufacturers have moved pass it (ie "F1 Derived" V10, last time they used it was in 05)...

So in my not so humble and very biased opinion (at least I will admit to it) this car lacks what it takes to be an icon. Nobody cares about this car any longer. It was a great car when the idea was conceived, nearly a decade ago, but time has passed it. It will go into the history books like the NSX did, great car, but nothing significant, not a game changer.
