The Volt is a hybrid. It also has a gasoline engine. The Leaf is an electric vehicle. It has only an electric motor. Two different classes of vehicle. Apple and oranges comparison.

Oh sweet irony!!:-) However, the Volt IS an EV; it has to be plugged in. It's just a much smarter solution than the Leaf at this point in EV technology.

The Volt should be compared to the Prius, not the Leaf.

With the Volt you need only one.The Leaf you need the following:
- Another Real Car when the range of the Leaf is not there

or A friend who works at the rental car company to have a car ready when you need it at a good price

And a Tow truck company just in case the battery runs down more than anticipated.

You Leaf lovers can get a life. I looked at one of these POS and let me say, it in no way compares to the VOLT in terms of quality or practicality. Say what you will but VOLT owners NEVER have to worry about range anxiety. Leaf owners, however, do. Let the numbers speak for themselves. Maybe when pure electric tech is further along, a car like the Leaf will make sense, but as of today, the VOLT IS the clear winner...period!!!

Thank you for this summary. Unit Sales numbers send us a clear mesaage: hybrids are better than electric vehicles, and gasoline powered cars are better than hybrids. Thanks.

And diesels are better than gasoline-powered cars (in terms of range). So, what's your point?

So this is not about the Volt sales overtaking the Leaf, that happened last year. This is about the slightly cheaper, much smaller battery (4.4 kWh vs 16 kWh) lower EV-range Prius Plug-in selling less than half the units last month when compared to the Volt.
