RENDERED SPECULATION: If The MKVII Volkswagen Golf Gets A Premium Look, Will It Keep YOU From Getting An Audi A3?
To be straightforward, I am a fan of Volkswagen Auto Group's products. I really am. However, sometimes you just have to call a spade, a spade.

This is exactly why I can't seem to wrap my head around why ANYONE would buy an Audi A3 when you can get a Volkswagen Golf. Sure, there's slightly more attention to detail and a slightly better interior but when you consider the Golf's easily has the best-in-breed interior it's not a total loss -- granted, that may change given VW's recent moves as of late.

Of course the Audi has a better nameplate but at the end of the day would you rather make the additional investment when you can put that money towards a 401K, the greater stock market or shares of a company you believe in? Hell, get some new dental work or something.

Long story short, new renders coming to us from our friends in Germany are speculating that the new VW Golf will get a more premium look and sleeker lines. From what we've seen in spy images and other renders thus far, it's easy to conclude that this next-gen Golf will be an evolutionary product.

That said, if VW ups the ante and gives the next-gen Golf more of a premium look, will YOU ditch the idea of getting an A3 already?

The A3 will be a sedan in the US so it doesn't even matter. The A3 also has more aluminum in its construction.

spoken by someone who has driven (extensively) the A3/GTI and Q5/Tiguan, they are totally different feeling cars. While they are similar in some ways, the presence you feel is more in the Q5 than the Tiguan, and the A3 is a little more crisp than the GTI, though barely...

The Q5 and Tiguan are not related. Different wheelbases, different engine placement, different engines and so on. The Porsche Macan and the Q5 is a better comparison if you want to go in that direction.

As I said, the A3 has aluminum in certain parts which certainly sounds like a highly advanced platform to me.

"A3/Q5 buyers are the biggest suckers in the industry"

Explain to me how VAG makes a "killing" on the Q5? It's not on a platform shared with any VW product? The Q5 is actually a very good value if you order a base model and don't go crazy with options. I assume you actually wanted to say the "A3/Q3 buyers"?
