VIDEO: So, If An Alpina 6-Series Was Faster Than An M6, Would YOU Get One?
A publication based overseas has released a video clip that appears to be a night-time run in an Alpina B6 Biturbo.

Now what's interesting here is that the B6 only has 540 horsepower but, clearly, the more important figure here is torque as the B6 seen here is actually faster than BMW's own effort in the all-new M6.

However, I still think I'd rather have the M6. Alpina's kits usually are far too old-school for my taste...

Sport Auto has released a top speed run video of the Alpina B6 Biturbo, powered by BMW's 4.4L V8 engine rated at 540hp and 730nm torque and top speed of 334 km/h. For comparison, the new F12/F13 M6 features 560hp and 680Nm torque with a top speed of 305 km/h.

I'd rather have an M6, and top speed would have zero impact on my choice. One, we can't approach those speeds in the U.S., so whether a car hits 305kph (190mph) or 334kph (208mph) is meaningless. Two, the M6 is electronically governed. The natural top speed would be well over 200mph, just like the Alpina. So an M6 getting passed after it hits the electronic governor at 190mph doesn't mean much, I am pretty sure it would get to 190mph quicker than the Alpina would.

M6 hands down... if BMW wanted to "tune" its car, it would make a race car, ie M3 vs. M3 GT2/4 or Z3M vs. Z3 GT3... Thats the difference so an M6 is the tamed street version of a vehicle that if BMW wanted, could make the M6 into a race bred vehicle, dump a few hundred pounds and make it a beast... But thats not what the M6 is supposed to be...

you are absolutely correct, because I know very little about tuning firms, but if the question was about which car I would take because an Alpina may be faster, then I would always take factory effort over independent companies, no matter how much work it does with the company...

I spend zero time on the track, so the numbers game is meaningless to me. Also, I don't have this thing in me that needs to prove I'm better than the next guy by buying a car that a professional racer on a track can make go faster than someone else's car. I'd be totally cool with a Plain Jane A5. No need for "I'm better/faster/cooler than you" stuff for me.

Alpina because it is more subtle kind of like a proper Sleeper
