Does Volvo Have The Cojones To Build The Volvo S60 Polestar? Early Talks Point To "Maybe"
When Volvo began teasing its "Swedish Green" S60 Polestar, I was smitten. That's because I knew how incredible the C30 Polestar was -- and still is.
While I had a faint hope that it would make production, it turned out to be a one-off vehicle for a buyer in the U.S. Wompwomp.
But news emerging from the UK is suggesting that Volvo is in "serious" discussions to possibly build the S60 Polestar in a limited batch run.
And if you thought the Audi RS4 was a bit of coin, check this out: An S60 Polestar in production trim would run upwards of £100K. However, there is some good news as it would still retain the same powertrain and drivetrain from the one-off.
The lunatic 500bhp
Volvo S60 Polestar concept
could yet find its way into production. Nick Connor, managing director of
Volvo
UK, said that the company is “in serious discussion with Polestar to try and make the S60 a reality.”
Volvo S60
Polestar numbers would be extremely small, and Connor makes no secret of the fact that the Polestar would be a marketing exercise. If it does go into production, it will cost more than £100k and retain the concept’s supercar-rivalling power figures from the 3.0-litre turbo’d inline six-pot, and four-wheel drive system.

Eep. Guess I won't be getting one at that price, but still it'll be a great car if they build it and maybe it'll spur them to trickle more of the performance parts down to their other cars and trims.

Of course Volvo is already screwing this up with it's $150K+ (US) pricing... Volvo buyers, even the car enthusiast ones like myself, are all about practicality... getting a great European car for less than it's German competitors. So that being said, 500hp should run no more than $65-70K as you can already can get 556hp from a Cadillac CTS-V for $63K. Granted the CTS-V doesn't offer AWD and it's American - but if I want a 500+hp car AND keep $87K in my pocket, sorry but I'll go with the CTS-V. Please Volvo, please do what you have to, but you GOT to price this car in the $65-70K range, otherwise - don't even bother.
