It's all about rebadging. Americans are well known for that one. GM/Ford/Chrysler etc. Japans been doing that for awhile now too. JDM to USDM (Toyota to Lexus). Toyota Prado = Lexus GX . Somehow magically the prestigious name makes it better quality. I call bluff.

To have the same company re-badge it's own cars that's one thing but to have another company to take another company's car and re-badge it, that tells you how poor that company is. Mitsubishi should be building cars and not leasing someone else's car and re-badge them.

Mitsubishi has done this for decades though. The Starion, Eclipse, Gallant, and even the current Evos all shared the chassis/powertrain with Dodge/Eagles/Chryslers. Lets not forget the horrible rebadge that was the Mitsubishi Raider.

Now that Chrysler has Fiat to source platforms from it doesn't need Mitsubishi so Mitsu has to look to another company to work with.

Mitsubishi sales have plummeted since the 90s. They have a host of reliability and warranty issues that was kept secret. Consumers eventually find out.
