Will Cadillac's New ATS Prove To Be a Contender To The Germans Or Just Another Pretender?
Cadillac's new compact 2013 ATS does more than fill out the American luxury car maker's long stagnant vehicle lineup.

The all-new car could make Cadillac a player in the important small luxury segment dominated by the BMW 3 Series.

"This is the first time any American luxury carmaker has built a vehicle on par with the best of what the Germans have to offer in this segment," said Alec Gutierrez, senior auto analyst at Kelley Blue Book. "Nothing has ever before come even close in amenities, styling or performance. I think they are going to sell a ton of these."

I think it will do just okay. The styling is not as dynamic, considering the segment. Maybe that's by design, but I think Cadillac is missing the target here. Even the interior styling is mundane. Buyers in this segment are looking for a dynamic and exciting car to drive. This just one, by looks alone, isn't that.

I agree. I think this is a very "Futuristic & Dynamic" car for the older generation.

While I think this may be a great car for Cadillac, I do not think the overall sales will impact the 3er, A4, and C-Class too much. I think this will just attract a new group of buyers who are older Americans looking to get into Luxury (Not currently in one), and this would be a more affordable option as opposed to jumping into BMW, Audi, MB, or even Lexus.

Thierry, I'd have to agree. It's almost an oxymoron what you said about a "futuristic and dynamic car for the older generation", but that's pretty much what I was thinking, too. I don't know what the young up and comers are called these days (baby boomers and yuppies are no longer applicable, i guess..haha), but they want to be seen in something that looks good in addition to driving well. This Caddie looks like a fancied-upon last-generation Camry and i'm not sure that's going to help its cause.

Why would anyone speand money for such a vulgar car? Will it have wire wheels? No one buys a cadillac who can afford a BMW or other smart Euro.
