Seeing as how the Passat is driving their sales right now, they may want to rethink such a high base price jump.

so i drove a passet SE as rental for few weeks. it has about 11k on the clock. there are things i like about the car, but there are few other things that makes absolute no sense. the assembly quality is, well. questionable. the engine is not bad but not good by any means (all show no go is the best i can put here).

the interior is nice to look at, but cheap to the touch. everything is made of plastic and no piece of aluminum that i can find. you could easily see it shares some part with Audi (which i guess is bad news for audi since those piece seem to be made of cheap material too). the mirror adjustment.. just weird, and i can totally see it will break off in the next few years. the curse control system feel like designed by someone who never uses cruse control.

all in all, for 23k MSRP, i wouldn't buy it.

by the way, this car feels connected to the road and steering is pretty good. it feels solid (feels better than Mazda 3) it does handle pretty well too, reminds me of the BMW 325 i had for rental in the past. so yes, i would say it is a poor man's FWD 3 series.
