Toyota Rocks In July With A 36.7% Increase In Sales - Lexus Rakes In The Buyers Up 35.9%
Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., today reported July 2012 sales results of 164,898 units, an increase of 36.6 percent compared to the same period last year on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis. On a raw volume basis, unadjusted for 24 selling days in July 2012 compared to 26 selling days in July 2011, TMS sales were up 26.1 percent from the year-ago month.

The Toyota Division posted July total sales of 146,663 units, an increase of 36.7 percent on a DSR basis from July 2011. On a raw volume basis, Toyota Division sales were up 26.1 percent from the year-ago month.

“Consumers are responding to Camry’s strong value and affordability proposition, taking advantage of long-term, low interest rate financing and low lease rates,” said Bill Fay, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager. “Our new and redesigned models continue to drive our sales growth,” said Lexus Group vice president and general manager, Mark Templin. “With good availability of the new 2013 RX, and with the all-new ES and ES Hybrid arriving at dealers nationwide, customers will find a great selection in August during our Golden Opportunity Sales event."

yes, in lexusland you don't new things like a new chassis, body, engine, transmission, etc in order to be 'new.' just some body parts and accessories.

O good lords. The RX is new. Not all-new. Not new model. Not newly redesigned. But as in just released in the last couple months. New. And it is a nice improvement, reulting in a decent uptick in sales.

Now of course in Enthusiastx's world, no other manufacturer makes changes to a vehicle using the previous chassis. Every (German) manufacturer in his world changes the entire car, top to bottom, every 5 years. I see Audi, MBZ and BMW do this all the time, don't you?

Yes, just like the next gen LS. :) Just like last year's "all new" stretched A4..errr...I mean A8. And the upcoming S Class. And the completely unique design of the new 3 series. New doesn't mean clean sheet approach very time.

make a nice headline, but a look deeper reveals trouble....

* GS sales down for the 5th month in a row to 1,662. the 2 1/2 year old 5-series sold 5,700 units at a higher average price.
* LS down to 536 units. scary for a car that costs far less than the S-class or 7-series (1700 units) and undersells them both.
* one SUV...the RX...is driving sales volume.

I guess all those 4 cylinder 5 series are finally being leased by secretaries. Which would explain the drop in 3 series sales. Why not pay $20 more a month for essentially the same car but a bigger number on the trunk.
Yeah you can dig deep and find lots of dirty details. But I think Lexus will take their increase of 25% over BMW's decease of .5% anyday.

i'd prefer ACTUAL sales any day (as would any shareholder or manager):

july BMW brand sales: 21,297
july lexus brand sales: 18,235

your percentage neglect to consider that you are comparing lexus sales to one of their WORST months in history and BMW sales to one of their BEST months in history. lol

The GS is never going to be as big as the 5 or E. Thta's life. You can mention it every month, but no one cares. Just like MBZ and BMW can tweak their M and X5 as many times as they wants, but they will never sell more than the RX. The LS has had MANY months leading its segment. But not in the past year, as it is the oldest of its competitors. Such is the cycle of cars. You know this.

And the new ES has not even made it to dealerships yet. Enthusiast doesn't care. He spins numbers any way he can. He was spinning numbers years ago when Lexus was trouncing the Germans month after month after month. I don't get it. I hope they are paying him well. The obsession of the german fanbois on this site is bizarre.

pondo: ONLY the 3-series sedans are out. the coupes, convertibles and wagon are in their last year. the F10 5-series came out in 2010 (i know, i bought one). the X1 isn't in any dealers yet. and the 6-series is $100k low-volume car.

so what's your point? lexus still sold 3k cars less than bmw this month.

Ok, BMW 5-series outsell the GS by around 3:1. But this is to be expected. BMW as a company had been around for much longer and have already established a presence. Which actually makes it more amazing for Lexus. You can spin it all you want but the fact is, Lexus vehicles are not that far off of BMW sales even with 3/4 of it's lineup desperately needing a redesign.

"You're right, the 5er is a year old, but the only other Lexus the same age is the CT hybrid, EVERY other car is some 3-7 years old. The X1s are listed on BMW's site as a model, and my dealer stated they will be in mid-Aug. And the 6-series ALL start at $81k and below"

lots of facts wrong, as usual. the 5 is 2 years old, the X1 is on the site for ordering but not reflected in current sales as none are yet in the US, and the 6-series BASE prices range from $73,500 to $93,500 and all all have upwards of $25,000 in options available on them. go to any dealer site and you'll see that most range from $90-110k out the door.

Then don't state that the 6-series is a low volume $100k car, when ww sales avg. around 20k units (declining every year though), and the starting price is some $30k less but you then argue that MOST have some $25-30k in options! You are correct on the 5er, it launched in the States in June 2010. My dealer has 3 640s, the most expensive is $90,545...some $10k less than you stated. The new ES isn't even listed on Lexus' site, nor can be ordered so my X1 remark stands.

pondo: can you read? you were wrong on base prices. 7 of the 9 6-series start over $81k. you misquoted me. i never said MOST have $25k in options, i said $25k+ in options AVAILABLE. and the X1 sold ZERO units so far in the US so how can it be in july sales as you STATE. learn to read dude.

Couldn't help but notice that Hyundai's sales figures are absent again this month. Their market share slipped again, I guess people who waited for Toyota to get back to normal are making their purchases now.
http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120703/RETAIL01/120709957/1448/hyundai-sales-top-60-000-again-market-share-slips

The 3 series is BMW's cheapest car now. Lexus' ES outeslls its cheapest IS.
Personally, I don't like the look of the new 3, I'd rather get a 5 or ES.
Then again, I'd be perfectly happy with a Passat TDI.

...Wow, the negative ones are like the people who went after Toyota/Lexus during the recall crisis! Somehow hoping for a big free payout from cheating, lying, frauding. Yep what's the nature of Toyota and Lexus haters these days. On the other hand, those loyal and newcomers are happy as can be. Especially if they bought the new Camry or GS350.

Personally, I have been looking forward to the midsize sedan segment race and it has been anything but that. The GS and the M didn't pick up on the momentum of their priors.

While the last generation M is better than the current, this GS seems better than the last in every way except for the design, maybe. The GS still has time to gain momentum. It's back to the drawing board for the M.

Either I need glasses or the X1 is going to fly off the lots. I went to bmwusa.com and lexus.com and I see the X1 is listed at $2000 less than the IS. What the hell? I knew it'd be a steal of a deal but never would've thought it would be that cheap.

That price makes the X1 very, very tempting.
