Next Gen Audi RS6 On Track To Dethrone BMW's M5 With 572 HP

Audi is preparing to take on the latest BMW M5 and soon-to-be-revised Mercedes E63 AMG with an all-new Audi RS6. Power will come from an uprated version of the new twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 from the S6, S7 and S8.

Caught testing at the Nürburgring, the new RS6 is expected to make its public debut at next year’s Geneva show, with UK sales starting in mid-2013. It will be sold as both a saloon and an estate.

The new force-fed V8 replaces the naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V10 of its predecessor. Developed with Bentley, it kicks out a nominal 513bhp in the S8.

Part of what makes the RS6 special is that it has supercar performance without unnecessary wings, useless vents and so on. But I still doubt that it would be hard to notice the RS6 with huge fender flares and so on.

That's pretty much what happens generally in this segment but it looks liek this time the RS6 and M5 and E63 are only a year apart or so.

I think i read somewhere that the wagon version of the RS6 will hit 0-100 in 4.5s. This is no faster than the M5 and E63. RS6's advantage usually is it's straight line acceleration, and if it can be significantly faster than the M5, It's hard to imagine it will be better than the M5. It's hard to say the RS5 disaster won't happen again...

Because someone's hypothetical forecast means that's what is really going to happen. If a US magazine tested the S6 to in 3.7 seconds and a German publication tested the S7 to 100 kph in 4.1 how in the world will the significantly more powerful RS6 not do better than 4.5?

The RS6 may be quicker to 100mph, but the M5 will still be faster around the a track, and have faster ingear/ high end acceleration. There are videos of the M5 out dragging a Panamera turbo S from a rolling start...no way the RS6 will be quicker than its big brother the Turbo S.
