Honda To Counter GT-86 With New S2000 Sports Car
Honda is planning to develop a successor of the S2000 sports car which will be a direct rival for the Toyota GT 86, for the Scion FR-S and for the Subaru BRZ.

The Japanese based automaker Honda didn’t announce anything official yet about the S2000 successor but according to Automotive News, the model will be a competitor to the three sports cars mentioned above and performance is expected to be similar to its rivals, but we don’t know what platform the vehicle will use and what engine we can see under its hood.

Honda needs a true sports car. I was hoping for a new Prelude that was not targeted at the entry/mid-level manager set, but a new S2000 would be even better. Just make sure there is a hardtop only version available.

Post correction. Since the BRZ only shares the market with either the FRS or GT86, it would only be competing against the same car twice per territory, not three.

No, in fact the last generation of the S2000 had a redline just short of 8,000 but improved torque.

The older S2000 wanted you keep the rpms above 4000.

If Honda can price the NEW S2000 hardtop for within 10% of the FRS/BRZ, it's going to be a hit.

I think I just creamed my pants. Honda needs to build a hard-top and a convertible version. Not just a convertible like the S2000.

Don't get your hopes up folks, this article misquoted the Automotive News article, plus the new Accord V6 won't be getting 310hp, only S2000 that you had to pay extra to get radio and a/c was the club racer model...the whole article is rubbish...

And "planning to develop" is code for "4 years away".

Oh and the OSM concept photo above is Euro Civic/Fit based and FWD not a S2000 replacement...AutoSpies: all flash, no substance.

...good luck! And keep it below 28K and I think Honda may have a hit as well.

Wonderful! The Honda S2000 was a great purpose built sports car at an affordable price point.
This new generation S2000 should be superfragilisticexpialidocious!
