2013 Buick Verano Turbo To Start At Under $30K - Who Should Worry?
General Motors Co. said the 2013 Buick Verano Turbo will start at $29,990 when it goes on sale this fall and get 31 miles per gallon on the highway.

The new luxury turbocharged sedan includes a destination charge of $885 and uses an Ecotec 2.0L four-cylinder engine with direct injection and continuously variable valve timing to produce 250 horsepower.

It comes as GM is adding more turbo engines to its Buick lineup.

The Verano will have a 0-60 mph acceleration in an estimated 6.2 seconds and EPA-estimated 20/31 mpg ratings with a six-speed manual transmission available.

Who should worry:

Toyota - Lexus ES, Camry, Avalon
Ford - Taurus
Cadillac - ATS, CTS
Honda - Accord

Absolutely no one.

Add a Voltec drive train with a 60-80 mile range battery, call it the Buick Ampera and sell it for less than $50k. Then Tesla would be worried.

Fat chance I would ever consider a Verano(remember it's a Chevy Cruze), much less one that is $30K and worth about $15K in 2-3 years.

Almost nobody. But perhaps the Acura ILX, similarly sized and similarly (over)priced.

+1 you are so right, the ILX would really be the only competition that I can think of. Maybe the Volvo S40, as its FWD.

It's pretty easy to tell which people haven't even looked at a Buick lately.

one thing I can't understand is where all the 270 horses in the regal GS is going based on its 0-60 times of 6.3-6.7 seconds. Thats slower than a BMW 528i which is bigger, heavier, and has 30 less horsepower. Even the X3 with the 240hp 4 cylinder is faster. Same thing with the Kia Optima and Hyundai sonata, 270hp yet are slower than the previous generation VW Passat which only had 200hp. A 306hp CTS takes 6.2-6.5 seconds 0-60. the less powerful, larger 535i is over 1 second faster. Either BMW is under rating their engines or the rest are over rating theirs.

Matter of fact, the CTS 3.6 performs the same as the 240hp 528i +- a tenth of a second or so 0-60
