NHTSA Begins Smart Car Testing To See If More Automation Will Save Lives
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Gov. Rick Snyder kicked off a year-long test of nearly 3,000 "smart cars" that could one day revolutionize auto safety.

"We know there is great promise," LaHood said Tuesday morning, saying the government plans to look at data in a year to determine its next steps. "Will it save a lot of injuries? Will it save a lot of lives?"

LaHood said the department has made no decision on whether it will implement formal regulations, saying the data will guide the decision making.

Will more automation save injuries and lives? Probably some.

Will it be truly catastrophic when the automation inevitably fails? Definitely.

Was the Total Recall remake a total waste of my ten bucks and did it make the original one so much better? Absolutely.
