Evolution Or Revolution? Porsche Drops The First Shots Of The 2013 911 Carrera 4 and 4S
The latest members of the new Porsche 911 family have arrived. Four-wheel-drive Carrera 4 and 4S versions of the 911 Coupe and Cabriolet will debut at next month’s Paris Motor Show – and these are the first official pictures of the new cars, which go on sale in the UK in December.

They feature 22mm wider rear wheelarches and 10mm wider rear tyres than the Carrera 2. Plus, the tail-lights are now linked by an additional red light strip – the signature of 4WD 911s. Despite the wider track, the Carrera 4 is 65kg lighter than before, but 25kg heavier than the Carrera 2.

Always an evolution, because you cannot revolutionize something that is already near perfect.

"One of the things that caught my eye was the illuminated taillight strip"
Really? wow thats impressive for close to $150k large.
Which will be worth about $60k-70k in 5 years.

or you could buy an 06 or 07 Ferrari 430 Spyder thats pretty much fully depreciated.
But if you need one car that does all then the 991 would be good but just wait 2-3 years and save yourself a large suitcase of cash.

oh no, that taillight Strip hideous. VW is already screwing up the design.

911 and cars of this caliber are not made for people on a budget - their audience easily has the discretionary income. Your logic is reserved for those debating between a Civic Si and Tiburon or GTI.

Also, Porsches unlike Ferraris are made to be driven every day as a regular driver, comfortably and reliably. The same cannot be said of the Ferrari. So a person can have both cars, one for the weekend jaunt and one for the commute.

Quizz,
I disagree. Someone that is Uber rich is not really going to consider a 911S. The mere wealthy that have limited descretionary income will likely lease a new 911S as their daily driver. The wealthy car fanatic however will want to have a few toys to play with. If you can afford a few toys then you would want dedicated cars specific for their intended purpose. Like a depreciated Ferrari or Lamborghini as their sports car. Maybe a Panamera or Maseratti as their family GT car and of course a luxury ute like Range Rover. If you've driven the new 991S then you would know that it is boring compared to driving even the older F430. It is improved and sounds better, but that boringness is what makes it good for everyday person that needs and can only afford one all arounder.

"Evolution Or Revolution"
or how about "the same" ?

all the wonderful engineering apart, the car looks pretty much unchanged for the past 30 years (or maybe longer?)

Aside from the wonderful engineering, handling and performance on the street and track it still look Kermit The Frog to me. I mean just paint green and you know what I mean. The German fanboi has the nerve to call the Nissan GT-R Ugly? LOL....

The Nissan GT-R is a very good looking car. It look better in person. And I've seen many Porches 911 in California and "Yes" it still look like Kermit The Frog to me.

Anyway still look the same to me. Their design has not really change for the past 30-50 years. If it not broken why fix right?

Different strokes for different folks. Porsche is simply giving what they believe their audience wants, nothing complicated here.
