SPIED: Volkswagen's MKVII GTI & Golf R Have Been Spotted For The FIRST Time
While we've seen spy images of the upcoming, all-new Volkswagen Golf that's said to be making a Sept. debut, we have yet to see any other variant pop up. That is, until now.

While we've been able to see the standard Golf in developmental testing, we hadn't seen anything akin to the highly acclaimed Golf R variant. Now though, it's pretty clear that the cat is out of the bag.

Spotted in heavy camo abroad, the new GTI can be seen sporting a set of large diameter wheels and a dual exhaust very similar to the current generation product. The R, on the other hand, is set up with a quad-tipped exhaust that -- surprisingly -- isn't centrally mounted. That's been the vehicle's calling card for years; however, it could just be a development thing that will get worked out as the car gets closer to production.

From what we know about the standard Golf, we expect the same barrage of changes to impact the GTI and Golf R. Namely, it will get more power than ever, slightly larger and shed approximately 200 pounds. No word has been mentioned if the R will receive a VR6 again or if it will stick to its four-banger, forced induction powerplant.

Can't wait to see the new Golf MkVII... I wanna get behind the wheels too, because my GF wants a Golf and I told her to wait for the new GTI because its worth the wait, with 100Kg gone and more power, it should be a fun pocket rocket!

Agreed. VW made a big step forward with the MKVI, now lets see if it can continue bringing the heat.

I am VERY curious to see if the interior becomes Jetta-fied.
