VW Concerned Chinese Partner Has Been Stealing Technology From Them
Volkswagen AG is concerned about a possible unauthorized use of some of its patents by Chinese joint venture partner FAW and will protect its patents rigorously, CEO Martin Winterkorn told German newspaper Handelsblatt.

"If there are open questions on patents, then we will discuss those with our partner and certainly not accept this," the German newspaper quoted Winterkorn as saying in an interview published earlier today. "We will protect our intellectual property with all rigour, also in China."

"The FAW factories concerned are located in Changchun," the CEO said. "We're looking at this very closely and will examine things on site," said Winterkorn who is visiting China as part of a German delegation led by Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Did VW expected any less from their Chinese partner? China has been making knockoffs and stealing technology from every product in existence. Maybe VW can stick it to them just like APPLE did to SAMSUNG.

That's OK VW, the communist party assures us they will look into it. Stealing intellectual property is not tolerated in China ;)

Well perhaps it will slow VAG from taking over the car world.

That's stupid. Before signing up the partnership, VW should have gone through all the risk measures, and done some kind of protective actions on the patent. Now, the CEO suddenly brought this up and caught people attention. He is obviously covering his ass and the mistakes he had made.

Most of the Japanese automakers have partnerships with the chinese companies, and they never have this problem. so only VW does??

Good luck with that - as if the Chinese government is going to do anything about it. Naive Germans.

"What Is The SINGLE MOST Important Mod For YOUR Car? Wheels? Tires? Exhaust? DISCUSS!"

I suspect the answer depends on what you're trying to get your car to do for you. I've always wondered why people take such pains to mod their cars. Most mods tend to be cosmetic and not functional. For example, why get side skirts and a spoiler when they have little effect on overall performance at legal driving speeds? If thin profile tires are such a great idea why don't F1 racing cars or world rally championship cars use them? Are fatter tires really better to have on an economy car? You usually buy economy cars for better fuel economy - why make it worse by adding more rolling resistance with larger tires?

If someone wants a performance oriented VW they do sell a Golf R that's more sporty. My idea of an ideal car is one that doesn't have to be modified for better street performance. If you want to modify it for looks then spend your cash on whatever you think makes it look the best.
