SPIED + VIDEO: Porsche's Next-Gen GT3 Caught On Camera, Stirs An Interesting Debate - To PDK or To NOT PDK?
While Porsche has dropped the all-new 911, the Carrera, Carrera S and now the likes of the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, it's about time for the others to start coming out from hiding.

While we've spotted the 991 Turbo in testing for quite sometime, soon after the new Carrera's debut we started seeing the GT3 undergoing developmental testing.

Since then though there has been a debate over the transmission it will be receiving. Some sources are saying it will only come with one type of transmission, while others are speculating it will have a secondary, optional gearbox.

Given the shift of buyers spec'ing vehicles with automated manuals or simply autos, it seems that the business case would defer towards only opting the vehicle with a PDK transmission. Though I can't imagine many things being better than a six-speed GT3 -- granted, we'd assume Porsche would retrofit the all-new seven-speed 'box in the GT3.

So, here's the news: If you subscribe to the believe that the next-gen GT3 will only come with one transmission, then it looks like we'll only receive a PDK tranny. One look -- and listen -- to the video below should end ALL speculation there.

However, if you're like me, you'll cross your fingers and hope that Porsche offers a do-it-yourself from the factory as well.

There have been several conflicting reports regarding the transmission options for the upcoming Porsche 991 GT3. EVO Magazine stated the car would have 470 horsepower and a PDK trans. Our latest report on the topic stated Porsche was leaning toward offering the PDK trans and that both manual and PDK versions were undergoing testing. The video below clearly shows PDK rev matched downshifts and the lightning quick PDK upshifts.

I have seen quite a few 991 911s on the road now~ they look so much bigger and much more aggressive than the 997s. very looking forward to the GT2/3 Turbos.

GT3s will ALWAYS have Manual Gearboxes as standard, Porsche may offer PDK as an option at some point. But Manual as Standard is my bet.

You're thinking as if Porsche is an independent, private company. If VAG decides that Porsche is missing out on a large segment of drivers that are intimidated by driving a manual car and are willing to pay a hefty premium for the PDK option, it will happen.

Remember, Ferrari and Lamborghini use to be all manual transmission cars, but they are not now.

PDK (DSG, etc.) are great automatics, but they are automatics. Not for me. Automatics are flat just not as fun to drive. I don't care about their faster shifting or their slightly better economy, I want my manual!

It makes so much sense to offer PDK in the GT3 - many GT3 owners track their cars and the PDK offers real advantages on the track. But, for the street, there is nothing as good as a great manual transmission and Porsche makes one of the best.

PDK is the faster transmission, case closed.

@totalrecall - I guess that every current Ferrari and Lambo aren't "Proper" cars? While we're at it; the GT-R, Veyron, none of those cars are "Proper" cars according to you. You can't get any of those cars with a clutch pedal. Are they not "Proper"?

Answer the question instead of deboosting. Nevermind... You don't have an answer.

BMW is doint away with manual transmissions. Is Porsche next? Do the wimps and sissy pants of the world ultimately win?

A wimp that will be able to shift faster than you will ever be able to do. There's a reason why you won't find a clutch pedal in any current Ferrari or Lambo. Why do you think that is? Is it to cater to the "wimps"? or is it to cater to the folks who want faster shifts?

All you old-school clutch pedal guys. Enjoy your archaic device.

The real racing GT3 models like the RSR use a sequential transmission with a lever: up for down a gear and down for up a gear. They have not had a clutch pedal or a traditional shift gate for many many seasons. I suggest Porsche offer a sequential manual like the RSR and a three pedal traditional gear box for the serious diehards.
