Infiniti To Debut An All-New G In Geneva - What's It NEED To Edge Out The Competition?
In the entry-level premium market, there are a few products that are starting to get a little long in the tooth. Two vehicles immediately come to mind: The Infiniti G and Lexus IS.

While the saying goes something like "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," the reality is that the competition has begun stepping up its game with more competitive offerings.

Thankfully, Infiniti will not take this sitting down and has been said to be bringing an all-new G to the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

Once considered the best product in the class, even besting the BMW 3-Series in some publication's testing, the G has some work to do with all-new products coming to market. That being said, what are the key areas that the next-gen vehicle will HAVE to improve upon so it once again can reign victorious?

The next-generation Infiniti G-series will be revealed at the Geneva motor show in March 2013.

Speaking to Autocar at the
Moscow motor show, Infiniti's design chief Shiro Nakamura said the new model would be "much sportier and more dynamic than the current car".

What does Infiniti need to edge out the competition? How about some attractive styling?

I would love to see Infiniti make the G37 coupe/sedan lighter. Make the next Infiniti G37 Coupe around 3000-3200 lbs. and give the base model around 350-360 hp with 300+ lbs. ft of torque as well.

And also give us an Audi RS5, BMW M3, Mercedes C63 AMG and Lexus IS-F competitor with 450+ hp with 400+ lbs. ft of torques (via supercharger or twin turbo charger V6.

Finally, bring out the rumor Nissan GT-R version for an Infiniti G37 coupe with 550+ hp and 500+ lbs. ft of torque as well. And offer all of this models that I've mention in Sedan, Coupe and Convertible form.

And off course make the Cars Fun and Exciting to drive as well and price it reasonably and it will sell like hot cake.

They need to drastically improve the interior. That is the one thing that prevented me from ever considering either the sedan or coupe as I didn't see it as a step up from my 350Z, so to me, it was never a premium car outside of the badge. Handling and performance are already good for the class, but they need to increase the torque. Also, trunk space in the coupe is just abysmal for no justified reason. If BMW, Audi, and MB can provide 12+ sq ft of trunk space in their coupes, there's no reason why Infiniti can't give more than 5.

The BMW is on runflat tires, that's why it has a bigger trunk. Don't know about the other two you mentioned.

Yes, the BMW is on runflats. but that can't account for more than 2x's the trunk space. Also, the A5/S5 does not have run flats and it has more than 2x's the trunk space and comparable interior volume (and much better styling)

true AMG M version IPL, they really need smaller turbo charge engines and smaller dieesels. the hybrid should be mated with a four cylinder engine not a v6 and reduce the weight.

Edge out the competition? Shouldn't that say "Continue to edge out the competition"? Isn't the G the king of the class already?

The G was the king of the hill prior to BMW delivering the N54 powerplant. It's slowly fallen behind in recent years.

G really needs total NEW platform and engine, but with lazy Mercedes engine? Nissan easily can come up with better one. Look at 328 and Nissan should have a clear idea what they should be doing.

- A G owner eying on next car, more likely IS or 3.

Over the years, the G has grown in size and weight. I would love to see a new G Coupe that improves on the concept of the first generation coupe by:
trimming weight
adding power
smaller size
smoother engine

On my wish list:

V8 power or a turbo six
7sp manual transmission
Smaller displacement variant available with manual transmission
A straight-up, two seat only version

A V8 is a huge stretch given the ways of the market these days.

Would be cool to see Infiniti deliver the first seven-speed aside from Porsche.

If Lexus has been doing the IS250 with a standard, I can't see why Infiniti wouldn't do a G25 with a manual.

Personally, I love the G. It's the only vehicle in that class that I'd buy before the 3 series.

I can't wait to see the new G. I just hope and pray it will NOT have any MB engine or even parts in it. I love the power it currently have, but would love it more if it increases it.
