SPIED: Staying TRUE To The Concept, The FIRST Cadillac ELR Is Snapped On Michigan Roads
By now we all know the story of the Chevrolet Volt. It was ushered in with a lot of hope and change behind it; however, at the end of the day it didn't deliver. Hm, that sounds familiar.

One of the widely cited contributing factors to the vehicle's failure to really shoot out the lights with its sales was its high barrier of entry. Even with the tax credit, the Volt was out of many folks price range.

If you need further proof of how a high ticket price can drive away sales, look at the Toyota Prius C. When it made its long-awaited debut it went gangbusters when compared to the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf largely because it was not an expensive product.

One thing I had posited though was that the Volt powertrain should be placed into a Cadillac. At least then it could have gotten away with the higher pricing, packaged it in a sexier body and made up some of those R&D costs -- assuming buyers came out of the wood work.

Well, it appears that we're arriving at that point. Finally.

An eagle-eyed reader of another publication was lucky enough to spot the first Cadillac ELR doing developmental testing on Michigan roads.

Autoweek reader Josh Lindquist recently snapped these photos of what may be a camouflaged Cadillac ELR cruising around metropolitan Detroit. While the photos don't show the car from every angle, its lines are strikingly similar to those on the ELR featured on Cadillac's official Web site.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing this car (but could do without the unnecessary political commentary....)
