Toyota, Lexus, And Scion Will Continue Throwing Money On The Hood To Gain Market Share
The Toyota, Lexus and Scion brands combined for a 46 percent increase in August sales, building on Toyota Motor Corp.’s U.S. market share gains.

Last month’s rise followed sales advances of 60 percent in June and 87 percent in May, as the company continued to rebound from last year’s natural disasters in Asia. Thanks to a 30 percent jump in U.S. sales this year, Toyota’s eight-month share of the U.S. market now stands at 14.4 percent, up from 12.7 percent a year earlier.

In addition, Toyota was the industry’s top-selling retail brand for the sixth straight month. August fleet sales accounted for less than 3 percent of total volume.

they all do, of course. it's just that lexus incentives have been on the rise big time. and they offer similar dollar amounts but on cars that cost less. so they're offering bigger incentives as a percentage of vehicle MSRP.

@david999,

Have you and everyone up here forget this is a BMWspies and Hyundaispies? I mean autospies ; )

Every business has to offer some kind of incentives, promotion rates or free gifts to lure clients in and hoping they like it enough to eventually buy your services or products.

Just like Autospies offering it members up here to come read and post their comments for FREE if Not I would've go else where. Right Agent 009? ; )

to the deboosters:

you're right lexus incentives are not rising.

you're right lexus MSRPs are just as high as mercedes and bmw.

and you're right. $3500 off is the same percentage discount on $40,000 as on $60,000.

Somebody, and it's not just 009 as this is an Auto News story, has their panties in a bunch over toyota and lexus being so successful this summer. Of course, 00Whine made the headline even worse.

"Toyota hopes to build on that trend in September with the start of zero-percent financing on the car. It also plans to continue offering a special lease deal that provides monthly payments below $200. Zero-percent financing offers also will apply to the Corolla, Avalon, Tundra, RAV4, Venza, Highlander and Sienna."

Those are the only three sentences about spiffs in the whole story about how successful toyota is right now. They don't even mention Scion or Lexus.

Ugh.

Toyota seems committed to making cars in the US, so it's a good thing.

..Yeah like I said last year, dont think Toyota/Lexus is just going to sit on it's laurel and not do what ever it takes to stay at the top of their game.

When BMW offers incentives the ToyotaBots here are all over it. They ridicule BMW for using incentives to boost sales. When the Toyota Group does it, the same people are saying "everyone does it" it isn’t a big deal. Do you guys see how hypocritical you are? Toyota fans are the worse automotive fans that I’ve ever seen.

Is Lexus a luxury car maker? Funny how you left that out.

"Offering these excessive incentives to most people diminishes the actual value of luxury ownership if "anyone" can now get into one"

- Does that not apply to Lexus? Are they (Lexus) not offering incentives as well?

Ummm...offering zero percent financing is not exactly the worst a company can offer. It's not as if they're throwing money and free options on top of it.

In the old days (where some posters here obviously have been stuck in mentality-wise), the idea of BMW even offering cash incentives was unimaginable. The archaic turds on this site grumpily proclaim how "BMW don't offer no discounts" and that people would buy it "just based on it's reputation".

BMW finally wakes up to reality. And the reality is that yes, they will HAVE to offer discounts like the others, and no, offering discounts is not the magic pill that boosts sales. Kinda' like the situation they're currently in - offering up discounts and losing sales regardless.

I bet the same know-nothing half-wits here never envisioned this in a million years.

What do you call it when Hyundai prices are generally $5000 less than Toyota? Doesn't count as an incentive if everyday lower pricing is the norm?

I think MB has the most incentives, they advertise leases on C-classes of $299/month now and thats only with a few thousand down.

what are you guys talking about? BMW and MB have 50% bigger incentives than Lexus and their leases are much much better... Lexus leases suck.

Exactly!!!! Lexus leases are awful compared to German leases, always have been. The village idiot 'Lexsucks' and the ultimate douchebag 'Enthusiast11' would love to make you think otherwise. That’s right, Lexus is beating the competition on a level and fair playing field unlike their German counterparts. It’s funny if you really think about it because just about anybody can own a German car these days; what happened to exclusivity?
