Why can't BMW supporters respect Audi and vice-versa?

Not to be mean, but some of your own articles have not helped the situation. But this one does, sort of.

BMW and AUDI compete so fiercely because they are both so damn good!!!!

They are both fighting for the same person, so there will be hostilities. Also since they are close so the owners of their respective cars just want to brag about their cars and how it's better than the other. Simple competition.

Its competition. Just like the company dislikes each other, it can be easy translated to the customers who choose/buy them. Customers as long as they are happy will never admit inferiority. Its the way of life, without competition, how can we expect to improve or be better.

I do not think that they hate each other... its just competitive...

Anyways, having both in the family, I love both cars...

If "the way it drives" is your thing...get a Porsche.

I like both cars but.........when anybody says anything about audi being better than BMW i reply bak on audi and thats all. otherwise i respect audi.

Flychronic: BMW owners can't get a Porsche, isn't it owned by the same company as Audi. This would mean joining hands with the enemy.

Who in his right mind would actually support the rubbish Audi brand? That's why BMW guys will never repect those who, to us, seem to be out of thir minds. after all, BMW is the KING. NOT VW's Audi! Shame

BMW which is an independent company is hardly a cause for concern for the Volkswagen Group as a whole.

The Volkswagen Group is associated or owns not only Volkswagen & Audi & Skoda but also the oh so high-end Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche.

BMW owners must learn to respect that it is not just Audi they are contending with but if we take entire sales for the Volkswagen Group, BMW is just another spec in the dirt.

Audi could be seen as more prestigious because it has ties to Lamborghini, Bentley and also Porsche.

BMW is just by itself.

Why would Audi supporters respect a brand who's highest priced automobile at this current time is a $120,000 760Li when just in their own hierarchy companies such as Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini all have cars that cost over $300,000. (Carerra GT, Bentley Arnage/Mulliner/Azure), Lamborghini Murcielago.

Audi is part of an empire, BMW is a mini-empire that is a spec in the dirt compared to the entire Volkswagen Group.

Sure Audi has a connection to Volkswagen too, but by having affiliation with Bentley, Lamborghini AND Porsche (1 high-end and 2 ultra-high end companies) Audi has more of a connection to some of the most luxurious and respected brands as opposed to some of the least.

I think the heart of the problem is that many readers / bloggers for this website are based in the US and don't view Audi in the same league as BMW. Audi is a peripheral player in the competitive US market. Maybe Audi doesn't have enough dealers, maybe [until recently] it didn't have the right product line [no must-have vehicle, no SUVs], maybe its Audi's "invisible" marketing or its crappy lease deals [BMW gives great lease deals on 3 series and SUVs.
For whatever the reasons Audi is not on many luxury buyers radar screens. Recent poor reviews of the Audi A6 in US automotive magazines don't help, nor does the fact that all Audis look alike - so why buy an A8 when joe-schmo can't tell it from an A6 or A4?

Audi afficionados consider that BMW gets an excessive amount of good press especially when one considers how bad BMW designs [exterior shape, and also driver interface with controls such as i-Drive] are. It seems unfair that BMW gets a positive spin when its vehicles are so far from well designed.

I like both, and why not include Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Acura, Infiniti and others in that equation.

I'm sure there are a lot of BMW fans who like Audi's etc., but Autospies isn't a representative of the whole scenery. You have what you call TROLLS (like yourself) on this site which ruins everything for everybody basically.

Mercbasher is correct. In Germany where they both come from Audi is rated no 1, BMW 2 and then MB 3 (As a matter of fact most Germans consistently look down on MB.."the farmer's car") and argue more about whether BMW or Audi rules. In the rest of Europe, Audi needs no introduction. In the US, Audi has historically been poorly marketed and the comments of Axel Rees who was "axed" some years back give you an indication of the mentality of some of the people running the US shop. In the US people are more familiar with BMW, especially the yuppies crowd an image BMW has been trying to shake off. However, with fresh blood in Audi HQ, they've been doing a much better job marketing and are definitely picking up steam "the streets of tomorrow campaign for the Q7" was quite good...although I think they're sleeping at the wheel by not preparing to ride the tremendous TDI power display at Le Mans with diesel models in the US. That said, they're both great car companies whose competing products have not only benefited the consumer (RS4 v M3, RS6 V M5, 7 series v A8), but have created opportunities for Petrolheads like ourselves to discuss, vent, share info. etc.. With regards to being independent, there are advantages and disadvantages of either situation so simply stating that a car maker is independent means nothing without looking at the circumstances (look at TVR now, and even Lamborghini years back. However, my 2 cents worth about the future 10, 20or 40yrs etc..., Independent companies in anything south of the Ultra Luxury markets, will find it very difficult to compete and will be absorbed at some point or manage to survide in a diminshed state...This is simply from the point of view of scale, efficiency, leveraging expertise etc..

1) Ford Motor Company owns Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, etc. They are not more prestigious than BMW. Point given...what are your arguments anyway? You contradict many of your statements and are not sound on any of them.

2) BMW owns Rolls-Royce. Highly regarded as the most prestigious of them all.

think about it, bmw HAVE to make every single car a best seller, since they are a one brand company (yay bmw). they can't afford to have the 3 series be out sold (esp. in north america) vw has access to a bigger worldwide market (brazil being a huge money maker for them) and can afford to take a few losses here and there. if vw doesn't do so well in US, well then skoda can make up the rest in europe. if audi doesn't sell well in us, it has china to rely on for a constant stream of loyal buyers. i think audis styling has a lot to do with its success in china, its communist, so shouting about the fact you have money isn't great, and audi, with the more discreet styling is better, rather than m-bs obvious statements of wealth or bmws outlandishness. oh and the fashion in china is to be driven around in the back seat, so lots of rear room is important, and bmw's focus is on the driver soo.....

Jovi ya got me there and they did increase it next month to 26 % so i guess i was by 7% WHIUPITYDEWWWWW

I can respect both companies...I've had a BMW before too. I just think that as time goes by, BMWs get uglier as Audis get sexier.
