How Did Volkswagen's Jetta Sneak Into MSN's Best Bang for the Buck Luxury Car List?

Luxury cars are status symbols. We buy them to show off our relative success, to reward ourselves for a job well-done and, sometimes, simply to look good rolling down the street. But just because you have the cash to pay for a luxe ride — one with attractive styling, advanced engineering, lots of features and amenities, a posh interior and plenty of power — doesn't mean you should have to completely drain your bank account to do it.

Click through to see 10 luxury automobiles from the 2012 and 2013 model years that offer the best bang for the buck.

Cause they're nothing but rebadged Audis, right?

I think it’s the other way around, Audis are overpriced VWs, and VWs are overpriced economy cars.

Overpriced? So a Jetta TDI fully loaded for $25k with leather, heated seats and touchscreen is over priced? You can get a new passat with leather loaded for less than the competition. While they used to be over priced, they were also of much higher quality as far as interior, handling, driving dynamics ETC. I wouldn't call them a luxury vehicle, but something better than mainstream, but not quite upper echelon either.

It comes down to a person's definition of a "luxury car". There are people who would turn up their nose at any US make and prefer only cars made in England or Germany. There are others that would argue that Koreans make good luxury cars. If the definition of a luxury cars is "a status symbol" as the posted contends then it would be easy to make the case that none of these cars (or alternatively all of these cars) make the mark depending on what your definition of status is.

Eyecarehawaii is absolutely correct, "It comes down to a person's definition of a luxury car". My buddy purchase a TOYOTA SEQUOIA Platinum Edition for $55K while my neighbour purchased a LEXUS RX 350 for $42K. Both cars have all the toys but it seems people see the RX as "a status symbol" but not the SEQUOIA. BTW my buddy with the SEQUOIA earns 3X as much as the guy with the LEXUS.
