LEAKED! STUD or DUD: Is Jaguar's All-New Drop Top Going To BRING The Leaping Cat The EXCITEMENT It Needs?
The Jaguar F-Type has been hotly awaited ever since it debuted in concept form around 12 years ago. When it first bowed, folks in the automotive scene were bowled over. It was suppose to be less expensive than your typical Jag and it definitely looked killer.

Fast forward to present day and we're finally looking a production-ready F-Type that's received the modern day treatment. Looking VERY similar to the C-X16 concept, it really is an exciting looking roadster.

And while Jaguar has definitely reinvented the brand -- starting with the XF's debut and followed by the new XJ -- it seems to lack that special oomph.

In my perspective, the F-Type is that special product that will give Jaguar a bit of punch.

The problem is such, though: The market for two-seaters is just not there. It's pretty easy to see that one of the most depressed markets is the two-seat convertible class.

And we haven't factored in the competition. With the XK being the reigning cat, I think it's clear it won't be a 911-level competitor; however, I think the Boxster is more inline with the F-Type. Considering the lovefest going on with the Boxster, it certainly will have its work cut out for itself.

That said, we want to know:

Is Jaguar's all-new F-Type going to bring a whole new level of excitement to the Jaguar brand?

I don't know why Jaguar always takes a winning concept design (e.g., C-XF? C-X16) and then f*ck it up with the mass produced version. This doesn't look bad, but it's certainly not the stunner that was C-X16.

Are you kidding me? The only apparent difference between this and the C-X16 is that this is a convertible. Now, that may change once more details come out, but as this are right now your comment appears utterly irrational. The one on the right even appears to have the exact same wheels that were on the concept.

Appart from being coupe, the first one shown, can you please elaborate on which are the differences that you see with the final product?

I predict this car will hurt Boxster and 911 Cabriolet's sales. Further when the coupe comes out next yr it will hurt both the Cayman and the 911. My prediction is predicated on how well this car actually drives. If it is anywhere close to Porsche performance it then becomes a direct competetor in essentially a similar price range.Up until now there has really not been a production car that potentially threatened the Porsche market for their sports cars.Neither BMW nor Mercedes have a model that does it(SLK and Z4 don't do it becasue they are luxury roadsters).Lotus Evora does not have the quality nor can you see out of the thing in the rear. The Aston Martin Vantage is generally more expensive than the 911. The Audi R8 is in the same boat as Aston Martin.Jaguar appears to be making a direct assault on the $50,000 to $100,000 sports car market that Porsche has pretty much owned.Like Porsche it has history behind it.It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.
