GM Aims To Be The Apple Of The Automotive Sector By Overtaking Toyota With Most Loyal Customers

General Motors Co is aiming for industry-leading customer loyalty rates that could add more than $4 billion in annual revenue, product development and quality executives for the No. 1 U.S. automaker said on Wednesday.

GM wants to push its customer retention rates to at least 58 percent - the rate of industry-leader Toyota Motor Corp - from about 52 percent to 53 percent, the industry average in the United States.

"We believe in the auto industry no one really stands out as the clear winner in managing that overall customer experience," Barra said, adding GM was aiming for the even higher loyalty rates of Apple and FedEx.

They wouldn't be loyal customers, they'd be naive and uninformed owners.

Grossly misleading article title. GM is NOT aiming to be "the Apple of the automotive sector." They're just aspiring to have a similar customer loyalty rate that Apple does. The two are NOTHING alike.

Does this news mean that GM *didn't* want a loyal customer base before? This is like me saying that I want to make more money. Or that I want to eat more, exercise less, and lose weight...

Besides, all GM needs to do is build one of the best quality products in the industry, then make sure that every vehicle sold holds it's value, then improve customer service at all 6600 dealerships, and then come up with innovative technology (like the Volt, only better) that captivates the public.

Easy!

you can't honestly compare Apple and GM. Apple is a high-end computer/mobile device maker, and GM is a mediocre, part gov't-owned auto manufacturer that needed to get bailed out with taxpayer money because nobody wanted their cars.

Apple and BMW? Now we're talking.
How about Apple and Lexus? ;)

...Wow, I dont think Agent009 is learning any good lesson's from Agent001, who in my honest opinion, has a good understanding of the type of Automaker Toyota is. Trust me, people who buy Toyota's are not one bit intimidated by GM, it's customers or their loyalty to GM. However, there is evidence the other way around. Outward bling is outward glitz at best.
