SPIED + VIDEO: Porsche's 991 GT3 Convoy Caught On Camera + In Action - More PDK Confirmation?
Tonight on AutoSpies it's a good night to be a Porschephile.

First we show you the all-new Turbo, then the 918 and now the piece de resistance -- in my humble opinion -- the upcoming GT3.

While there's much fanfare over the Turbo and tons of gawking for the 918, I think the standard Carreras and GT3s are the real superheros from Stuttgart. The rear-wheel drive, purity of a Porsche is hard to really combat.

For one spy this week it clearly was a matter of being at the right place at the right time as they were able to capture a convoy of GT3s that were not disguised.

In addition, note how each of the vehicles back up from a rest. They don't seem to be revving much -- if at all -- from idle, which leads me to believe that all three of these vehicles are sporting PDK transmissions. This has to concern some three-pedal loving, want to be future GT3 owners.

Hopefully we'll have an answer regarding the GT3 and the standard gearbox's fate soon!

It will be interesting what direction Porsche goes with the 991 GT3. The new chassis is stiffer, which allowed them to soften the carrera's suspension a touch. So the 991 rides and feels more luxurious than the 997 by a good margin while actually sustaining superior objective performance in all areas.

Will the new GT3 be more lux than the 997.2 GT3? Or will Porsche go more extreme in the tuning (relative to the prior GT3) to deliver a more visceral and brutal car (which is sort of what a GT3 stands for right?)

The carrera S now offers 430hp with the power kit. So more power shouldn't be the reason to get a GT3. The motivation should be to have a much more track-focused chassis. So I hope Stuttgart goes extreme!

I can't wait to see the 991 in race trim either in the ALMS or Carrera Cup!

Unfortunately like Ferrari Porsche knows PDK allows improved performance over the 3 pedal version.Lets say for the sake of argument this car puts out 475HP with the future RS putting out 500HP you have to assume the following: This car will be able to compete with the 458 Italia in a straight line by going with PDK. It will not be as successful with 3 pedals. With it's rear engine and lighter weight now I'm predicting 0-60 below 3.5 seconds. That puts it close to a 458. Further with a wider rear track of the AWD 911 it should equal the grip of the Ferrari as well. I predict 7:25 at the ring based on 7:40 for the standard Carrera S. Porsche will probably discontiue the 3 pedal arrangement on the standard Carrera and S at the mid cycle refresh(3 to 4 yrs away). As for the ride and controls I would think it will be more comfortable than the current GT3 to the point that a slightly softer suspension will better be able to tackle bumpier roads and offer more grip. However I would suspect it will still ride more firmly than the Carrera or S.

Looking forward to the adaptive suspension and height adjustment system that will allow this car to be driven around town comfortably.
