Chevrolet To Move Upscale With Pickups

Chevrolet To Move Upscale With Pickups
General Motors plans a luxury trim level for its next-generation Chevrolet Silverado pickup, its answer to the leather-swathed top offerings of its rivals.

GM will name the model the High Country, according to dealers briefed on the plans during a national Chevy dealer meeting this month in Las Vegas.

It's a response to the proliferation of high-end pickup models, such as Ford's F-150 King Ranch and Limited and Ram's Laramie Longhorn, which have sticker prices that can top $50,000. Ford, for example, now offers five luxury F-150 trims that account for nearly one-third of the nameplate's sales.

Upscale for Chevy just means bigger discounts to move the things off the lot...anybody remember the Caddy and Lincoln pickups, how did those work out !

@ PUGPROUD

Actually the Cadillac Escalade EXT (based off the Chevy Avalanche truck model) has always sold very well since it's inception in 2002.

GM marketing execs must have been smoking on the kind when they came up with this hilarious moniker! "High Country" is truly a horrible name for a high end truck model.

"High Country" is actually a trim name they used in the 80's on the Blazer (I think it was).

So where does that leave GMC? they need to just get rid of GMC like Ford did with Mercury. With the content of todays cars theres no room or even a place inbetween mainstream and luxury makes from Ford and GM to justify a middle brand anymore.

GMC is moving the Sierra Denali up the luxury scale even further since the Cadillac EXT will no longer be available. The Silverado "High Country" will probably be more of a "Texas style" type of luxury pickup just like the Ford and Dodge. Sierra probably wont feature orange leather, buckles, and all that other stuff (if you get me)...

I thought that was the whole purpose of the GMC Denali trim.

Stupidity like this is why GM falls behind.
