Luxury On A Budget: Which Is The Better Choice The Lexus ES350 Or The Hyundai Azera?
Even when stacked up against other Lexus models, the front-drive ES has long been considered boring Yet the Camry-based sedan has long been a best-seller for Lexus, and the segment itself. The ES has become a benchmark in its own right; just as every compact sport sedan targets the BMW 3-Series, every upper-midsize near-luxury sedan targets the Lexus ES. Well aware of the beads drawn on its back, Toyota Lexus has redesigned the car for the 2013 model year. But has it raised the bar enough to keep Koreans with upward aspirations in their place?

How do you figure that? The Azera competes with the Avalon

Maxima, LaCrosse ETC, it is too big and upscale for the Galant, which competes with Camry accord, ETC, and the Kizashi and Avenger don't even compete in that league, as they are smaller than the Galant and its competition.

The ES350 is the most Toyota of the Lexus models. Actually overlaps with the Avalon. So the comparison is quite valid.

I believe the ES350 competes directly with the NISSAN MAXIMA, BUICK LACROSSE and obviously the TOYOTA AVALON (same car). Look at the demographics, they are basically the same.

Actually the Camry is the mechanical twin to the ES350.

The Avalon is based a stretched version of the Camry chassis. The original ES was based on the Toyota Windam which was the mechanical twin to the Camry. So try again as you said to me. Avalon is also bigger than the ES.

The Avalon chassis is 2 inches longer, and when I say mechanical twin meaning it shares powertrains, the V6 and the Hybrid drivetrains are the same as the Camry. So really we are both partially right, and I have no problem admitting that.

BTW Isn't this the same comparo as INFINITY G37 COUPE vs. HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE?

So, let me add another possibilty, a 300c everything but tech and the 2200. sound system. Includes dual panel roof, power everything 41,753, out the door for 30,000. and change. Drives like 58,000. and change.
2012,new no miles.

300C would better compete with the Hyundai Genesis, as they are both RWD. I would say the GS as well, but the 300 cannot match the GS on build quality and luxury. It is just outclassed, and the GS is way more expensive.

...Wow, what part of the word invalid comparison dont this Agent009 gets! Are you seriously demented? Value is not the same as qaulity or prestige. The Azera just may be in the same class with the Avalon, just may be. No matter how far down the road we go, the game changes will not change nor it's player (high rollers). For one, Hyundai must first gain the proper respect by creating a luxury brand identity without exception. Until that happens, people will somehow still reserve the notion that they (and it's followers) are always trying to compare peanuts(Hyundai) with pecans(Lexus). It's still in a name and Lexus has deservedly, over a long period of time, earned the prestige and premium brand name they've built. Hyundai on the other hand will have to do what Toyota did if they want the same success. If you go to places where people who are high earners live, hang out, socialize, dine etc, you will find the likes of Merc, Lexus, BMW, Audi and the rest of the premium chariots/players. So yeah, go ahead this is America. Freedom of thought, choice, speech, opinion, whatever. After all, there's nothing wrong with comparing boats with yachts...Their still boats right? Yeah right!

....And, the entry level Lexus ES350 is not quite the same as you suppose...Luxury on a budget! By the time someone finish financing a new Lexus ES350, that thing will be around 50k, even with 10-15k down on it! Heck you can almost get the top Hyundai for that much!

Anyone who pays close to $50K for an ES350 is an imbecil. I paid $58k for a new LS460 in 2009 and I still feel I overpayed.

Yes the same car I have owned for the past 4 years and probably none of those "car mag and auto columnists" have owned and experienced for more than 1 year. I love the ride (I drive it an average of 18K per year) but hate the performance. The car has NOT been bullet proof as all you LEXUS lovers claim it to be. Want proof, come down to JAX and I will show you. Stop commenting out of your behind if you have NEVER owned a car at this level and all you can do is quote car magazines especially when most of them follow the dollar signs. Who purchases a vehicle nowadays based on JD Powers? Preposterous!

I will choose the Lexus over this Hyundai because of the quality and reliability. And it resale value is much much higher in 4-5 years from now.

Judging by recent sales numbers, Hyundai probably forget they even had this car considering it competes against the Genesis and other non-luxury sedans.

I know I forgot this car existed.

The Koreans don't design cars, they copy and plagerize other designs.

Yes, their cars look good now but they are crap boxes on the inside. I drove one and got a miserable back ache from terrible non supportive seats. The engine drone was abusive. The suspension was mediocre. The cabin noise was too high. Switchgear feel was Korean crap grade.

Just because it looks good, don't get fooled. Buy a Hyundai and you will cry.
