Brave Move Or Serious Mistake? Infiniti Cancels Emerg Supercar To Concentrate On G-Series
Infinitis new boss Johan de Nysschen believes it will take 15 years for Nissans luxury arm to become established as a “tier-one luxury brand”. Speaking to European media for the first time at the Paris motor show, de Nysschen confirmed the Emerg_e concept would not be going into production, but it would heavily influence future Infinitis.
“The Emerg_e is not planned for future production at all,” he said, “ but it does offer an insight into our future powertrains and design direction. There will be strong cues in the G-series successor, particularly with the interior” he added, a model understood to be set for a reveal at January’s Detroit motor show.

lol. Who thought Infiniti was building a supercar anyway??? Not anyone with an ounce of common sense.
There won't be any 500+hp G variant either.

The next IPL G is rumored to have 530 hp. I guess time will tell.

IDK - mistake? It's possible that Infiniti would rather focus on a GT-R variant than to invest in a program that will no-doubt loose a lot of money for a few years. Nissan is already heavily funding the Leaf program - would be better to integrate a hybrid powertrain in an existing platform, than to risk developing a new platform with a new hybrid powertrain.
The Infiniti G is probably the most profitable model in the luxury brand's lineup. Makes sense. They can rest a bit while Acura retools, but they must keep the G models fresh and competitive.

Right move...you cannot take the big boys on at this stage and hope to make money. Build much better cars in the $30K-$70K if you hope to survive.

Not surprised, but I do think Infiniti needs a halo/exotic car to get into the Tier 1 air. The GT-R. as good as it is, it's just doesn't elicit the same reaction that the LF-A, SLS, Ferrari, R8, et al, do. I think when Audi introduced the R8, its "prestige" level catapulted. When Acura introduced the NSX 20+ years ago, it put Acura on the map like no other Japanese brand prior (until Acura dropped the ball on it…..and picked it back up again this year). The GT-R just blends in with the rest of the traffic or parked cars in the lots.

You must be myopic if you think the GT-R blends in with other cars. Even to the untrained eye you cannot miss the GT-R with the quad tail lights and extra large exhaust tips.

IMAO....... You got to be kidding me right? The stock Nissan GT-R has destroy all the super sports car you mention both in a line race and around the track as well. And not to mention it's cheaper as well. Even the Audi R8 V10 cannot keep up with Nissan GT-R.
A stock 2013 Nissan GT-R does 0-60 in 2.7 seconds and 1/4 mile in 10.8s has one of the fastest lap time on the Nurburgring. The Nissan GT-R is a "REAL DRIVER" Super Sports Car Not Some Poser wannabe.

I think it's a very smart move by Infiniti to focus on making the G-Series better and hopefully they're bring out a Nissan GT-R version with 530+ hp.

Maybe where you guys live in Podunkville does the GT-R stand out. Not where I live. it can do 0-60 in 1.0 seconds, but it still looks clunky, chunky, and non-exotic. Where I live, the truly rich (and there are MANY of them) drive Aston Martins, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, R8s, SLSs, Bentley GTs. The GT-R is a phenomenal performer, I never doubted that. But I'm talking about a true halo car that will get Infiniti to the appropriate Tier to which they strive. Get it?
