I think they misplaced it. That looks like a shifter for the steering column that was placed in the wrong place. That is about as ugly as it gets.

Chewy...you are so predictable. If this was an Audi, you would say that it was the best thing since sliced bread.

umm...how does it work?

People seriously need to realize that when they LOVE everything from one particular company or HATE everything from another than they become a joke. No one takes these peopel seriously any longer.

You either have at leasta somewhat open mind or you lose all relavence.

Looks very tacky. And that silver plastic or aluminum (whatever it is) sheet below the shifter housing it looks very much out of place.

What is BMW doing!? :(

it looks like a control for a cheap flight simulator

No. I have eyes, when I see something bad (i.e. this shift lever) I say it is bad.

It does kind of out of place, a better placement might have been on the dashboard.

The top post should say:

It does kind of look out place, a better placement might have been on the dashboard.

How does this work exactly? It doesn't look like it moves up or down like conventional shift gear levers.

I love how BMW is always trying to keep things moving forward with new innovation, I just hope that the one that makes it to production is better integrated. This stands out like a sore thumb.

Good job, BMW!

If it vibrates and can be detached from the console - then it may have a use. The ultimate driving experience!

Well actually the reason why its rite there is becasue in the 7series the gear shift is place where the windshield wiper is or used to be and sometimes people would get confused or wans't looking at made a mistake and hit the gearshift and you can guess what might have happen. So they put it where it was familiar to most people but still using the same technology.

BMW blows, once again they try to do too much with their electronics and they're going to leave people confused. Way to go BMW your decisions are opening the door for Audi and Merc.
