Reality Check: Are You Or Is Someone You Know Bias Against American Cars?
A few weeks ago, a neighbor of mine an unabashed Honda fan purchased a new Acura TL just before going on a vacation in California. There, he rented a new Lincoln MKS sedan to transport his family. When he came home, he admitted that he was surprised by how much he enjoyed the Lincoln's performance and features, yet he never thought to try one before buying his Acura.

A few weeks passed.

One morning, I saw that his TL was missing and in its place was an Acura loaner car. I asked him what was wrong with his car. He told me that something felt amiss with his car and when he took it in, the dealership discovered that part of the front suspension was cracked and needed to be replaced. My neighbor didn't seem upset; Acura was fixing it and he had a loaner car. His faith in Acura seemed unshaken.

Imagine if I had recommended that he buy the Lincoln MKS that he drove on vacation and, having bought the Lincoln, the same thing happened. Would he be just as calm or would he accuse Lincoln and the UAW of building junk?

After a long list attempts to be loyal and owning American failures, it is hard to recommend any of them to anyone regardless of what reliability tests indicate.

Further proof in the pudding is the relatively large number of recalls for engineering defects.

Call me lost forever on the American dream. The ONLY thing I might consider would be a truck if I ever had the need.

Agent009 your assumption on your friend is absolutely correct. I know pleanty of people biased against American cars who claim that they will never buy them again. At the same time, one of my buddies only buys American and he swears his Corvette and Explorer are great.
The reality is that no car is fully reliable, some might be "slightly" better than others but a few in this board think that their cars will never have problems.
I am extremely liberal with my purchases, I buy what I like and what I can afford. Depending on the model, I would buy American (F-150, Explorer, Corvette and Cadillac CTS-V).

In the last ten years I've bought three foreign cars for my wife...no problems. I also bought two American cars for myself...a Chevy SSR and a Shelby GT 500. The Chevy caught fire and burned with less than 2,500
miles and the Shelby was in the shop 77 days in less than 18 months got a full refund under lemon law). I will stick to foreign cars thank you
except for my '34 Ford (when an American car was a car you can depend on).

Biased against American cars? No. Biased against the UAW and their politics? Yes. So long as the UAW continues to funnel billions of dollars to elect democrats I will refuse to spend my money on an American car. Especially with GM. However, there are plenty of American classic cars I will consider.

Funny, the redneck members of UAW are probably mostly Republican.

I can see "Holydude" is a true Democrat..."say a lie enough times and maybe they will believe it !"

I would rather have a safer German car in the event of a collision.

Really? You rather buy an American Car than a unreliable German car? Sounds like a OXYMORON when discussing "unreliable" cars!

How is this even a question? What kind of person who can read would buy an american car? The Germans invented the auto while americans where still selling people. The Asians only do not excell at trucks because there is no market for these fuel wasting Earth-killing beasts in their clean nation. americans do nothing to further safety or environment. They build inefficient garbage using locomotive engines to go fast and impress stupid american women so old white men with flacid penises can have sex with them.

Um, the Germans invented the auto. Don't display your ignorance, have you never seen a Mercedes commercial in the last 10 years?!

As to racissm, you are crazy! Most all of the worlds problems are caused by old white men. How is that racist?

Go drive your 'merican car and worhsip christopher columbus you ugly american!

If the french ever invented anything approaching an automobile, it was surely an underpowered deathtrap. Mercedes invented the auto in 1896. This is a fact in their tv and radio ads. I am hardly a racist for reminding american white men how they have oppressed others, or for favoring a clean world.

The way I know I've won this debate is that others have resorted to namecalling.
