Infiniti Believes That Next Gen G Will Be The One To Crack The 3-Series Nut

Prototype versions of the new Infiniti G-series, set to be revealed in production form at the Detroit motor show in January, are now out in the open for the first time, revealing a model with a slightly larger footprint than the current four-door saloon.

The heavy disguise hides the styling intricacies, but new Infiniti boss John de Nysschen confirmed at the recent Paris motor show that the acclaimed Emerg_e sports car concept would heavily influence the look inside and out of the new G-series.

I am super excited and I can't wait to see what the production model look like and how it perform. I am hoping it will have some of the G35 coupe design DNA in it. And they need to keep the rear LED taillight.

Come on Infiniti give the base model around 350-360 hp with 300+ lbs. torques and G35h 380-400 hp and a Nissan GT-R version with close to 600 hp : )

Dunno, if other car makers continue to use the cracked nut as a bench mark and aspire to surpass it then it is still quite relevant. It is a strange nut as no one can fully grasp it. The facts that it is more expensive and less reliable make it even more mysterious.

I think of my daughter's Raffi's CD "Baby Beluga" when I see the current design direction of Infiniti SUV's, especially the headlights. Hard to tell from picture, but the new G might have them.

I am really rooting for the next G. The past 2 G's had gorgeous exterior designs (especially the first coupe), but their engines and interiors left alot to be desired. I really think Infiniti has the right formula for the driving dynamics, now they have to focus on overall refinement. This design, though camouflaged, looks like an evolution, which isn't a bad thing. Looks like it will probably mimick alot of the current M designs cues.

Infiniti done it before I don't see why they can't do it again?

Here is a link to an article on motortrend.com saying the G37 took the crown from the BMW 3-Series. Read bottom of the second paragraph,

No one can be number 1 forever.

As close as the Cadillac ATS came to the 3er on its first try, I'm pretty sure the next G will be just as good or better than the BMW this time around. Maybe no one will duplicate the Bimmer 3er formula EXACTLY, but there will be those who do it in a different way and be better at it soon. #watch

Alas, the dream of 'cracking the BMW 3 series' is a dream shared by all other auto makers. Of course, BMW is not sitting around on its laurels waiting for the world to catch up.
BMW continues to evolve and add abilities, luxury and comfort to the 3 series.

How about BMW tries harder to make their vehicles more reliable?

@skytop,

I guess you didn't read or saw the review where the Infiniti M57 luxury sports sedan beat the new BMW 550i? Many reviewer has complain about BMW getting soft and it rival is starting to feel like a BMW or better. Point is the new Infiniti M56 beat the new BMW 550i. And Infiniti G37 beat the BMW 3-Series before so might do it again this time around.

The new BMW 3-Series does Not look as good as the last generation and has change from hydraulic to electric assist. So the new Infiniti G37 coupe, Lexus IS350 and MB C-Class C350 has a better change of dethrone it. But only time will tell.

@Lexus exactly -not only that the 2006 M35/45 beat the 5 series in a C&D and Road & Track comparo. Also last year the 5 series (535) was beat by the 2011 M37 and the Audi A6 (which the Audi won)in a 4 car comparo. The E class came in last behind the beemer. At this point the nut has been cracked its more like a one-upmanship game now, similar to the one played by the 7series and the S class from year to year model update to model update.

Look at the new coupe, that is the new IS only with 4-doors. It will be the best looking car in the segment. Please don't comment on something you know nothing about.....LOL!!!

Infiniti's dream....This smacks of Japanese other ambition to rule the world in 1942.
That dream turned into a nightmare for the Japanese.
